Whether it’s the Mona Lisa or Snooki that you want to envision in puzzle form, Ji Ga Zo makes it easy with their DIY kit. Using the included software (both Mac and Windows compatible) turns any photo (or one of the five included designs) into a map, which coordinates with icons on the back of the sepia-shaded pieces to create a mosaic image.

The information below is from Kana Nakanishi:

“ABC – Atelier Book Chair”

Oiseau Inc. released a product designed by Kana Nakanishi under the brand called “mother”. The product is called “ABC” standing for Atelier Book Chair. It is a portable “drawing set” that can carry drawing tools and becomes a stool. The user can take ABC anywhere they like and the place will instantly turn into one’s own atelier.

ABC is made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) from Nishiawakura village Okayama prefecture. It started as a project to utilize thinned wood from forests which is a big issue in the Japanese forest industry. The production is done by Masakyuki Oshima, a skilled craftsman residing in Nishiawakura.

ABC looks like a wooden suitcase which is light enough for a child to carry. Once opened like a book, there are detachable pockets to store drawing tools and a place for a sketchbook. The seat board is also stored inside and when the board is attached to the body, ABC will turn into a stool.

Oiseau Inc. established “mother” brand for its range of products. The name “mother” has a philosophy that the products should be used for a long period of time and the designer who produces them should be the “mother” of the product and consider carefully about the whole “life” of a product. ABC became the first product to be released under this brand.

The information that follows is from Doshi Levien:

Rocker
Design for Richard Lampert

While observing young children, we found that most things of interest to them are not figurative but everyday objects that are not intended for play! Children find their own imaginative purpose for any object already in the home. This observation prompted us to create a “Rocker” for Richard Lampert that is like a found object, an improvised ride. Moulded seat with solid oak rockers.

Soundwagon

Rock vinyl anywhere with this player in the shape of mini VW bus
soundwagon1.jpg

Officially licensed by Volkswagen, the clever little Soundwagon record player has finally been released worldwide, and we had the chance to see it ourselves at the recent CES. Originally only available in Japan this mini, hyper-portable record player is sure to grab some attention.

Modeled after VW’s classic bus, the record player delivers ’70s nostalgia right to your living room, or anywhere that needs highly-detailed, cute grooviness. With a built-in needle powered by a nine volt battery, all you need to do is drop the wagon on a record and let it ride. The producer, STOKYO, promises the new model’s enhanced built-in speaker will deliver higher quality sound than in previous or knock-off versions. Check out the wagon in action in the video below.

The Soundwagon currently comes in cherry red, royal blue, black or white for the global market, runs ¥7,980 (about $96 currently) and sells from STOKYO’s online store directly for a wider color variety.

Christmas Tree Sledge by Tom Hatfield

Christmas Tree Sledge by Tom Hatfield

Still not sure what to do with your left-over Christmas tree? Royal College of Art student Tom Hatfield has turned a few of them into a sledge.

Christmas Tree Sledge by Tom Hatfield

Made from discarded trees Hatfield found around London, the sledge was made using a traditional woodworking technique know as bodging, where wood is worked ‘green’, without drying or seasoning first.

See more bodging on Dezeen here.

Here’s a little text from Hatfield:

Christmas Tree sledge

This Sledge is made from Christmas trees found in on the streets of London. With roughly 1.7 million trees bought for this recent Christmas period, these two-week trees are just discarded every year.  With snow in London becoming a more frequent occurrence, it seemed an appropriate item to use for the season.

Christmas Tree Sledge by Tom Hatfield

Using the primitive skills of a bodger, it opens up an inventive feeling of seeing the resources that are around us. People are not as resourceful as they once where. This sledge can give an excitement to a process that can give confidence that appeals to our creative side.

MINOR MIRACLE

Minor-Miracle-Mug_5869-l

The perfect Christmas gift from one of my favourite stocking stuffer brands – Fred.

MINOR MIRACLE
our Lady of the Latte
Sometimes inspiration appears when you least expect it. For example, even a simple mug can confer a Minor Miracle— after you drink your morning coffee or tea, a vision of The Holy Mother materializes in the bottom of your cup. Take it as a sign — caffeine is GOOD. Don’t you think every day should start with a Minor Miracle?
