Bag of the Week – Deena & Ozzy Architectural Reptile Satchel

imageThis Architectural Reptile Satchel from Deena & Ozzy is the perfect back-to-school carryall! And for those of us not heading back to school? It’s still pretty perfect. I’ve been lugging my laptop, planner and paperwork in an oversized canvas bag since early spring, and it is definitely time for a fall update. It’s already mid-September (already?) and soon enough, my summer-perfect canvas bag will be clashing with my sweaters, scarves and fall boots. What’s more, unlike the super-cute faux reptile-skin leather of this Deena & Ozzy satchel, my canvas tote won€™t stand up to any mist or rain I encounter when heading into the office. The Deena & Ozzy satchel comes in both grey and black, and the vintage-inspired architectural structure and detailing is on trend with the lady-like handbags that came down the fall runways back in February. My favorite detail of the bag, however, has to be the dual padded carry handle and removable adjustable shoulder strap. I love having the option of carrying the bag by the handle like a chic briefcase or slinging it over the shoulder for hands-free bike riding, texting, hand holding or breakfast burrito eating €¦ whatever strikes your fancy.

Alexis Georgacopoulos appointed new director of ECAL

Dezeenwire:
Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL) have appointed Alexis Georgacopoulos as the college’s new director. See press release below (in French)

DAMIER

Urban housing built on a area of 23m2 in a 30m2 site.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

Located in downtown Tokyo, where old and new coexist in the form of old houses and stores and large-scale apartment buildings.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

The owner of the house grew up in this area and decided to rebuild one of the two tenement houses that he inherited from his father into a five-storied house.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

An architectural plan that makes use of the characteristic position of the site located at the corner of a crossing has been developed.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

Employing a checkered pattern on the three sides facing onto the roads enabled a view from the interiors to all directions and a striking exterior.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

A reinforced-concrete wall structure was adopted in order to reduce the wall thickness as much as possible because of the limited size of the site.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

The ground and first floors were respectively designed to be leased out to a real-estate company and for residence.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

Entering from the door on the ground floor, a spiral staircase leads to the upper floor where more light pours in and the windows frame a richer view.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

Leasing out the ground floor to secure an income and securing permanence in urban life by dividing the private and the public has by now become a standard choice.

Damier by APOLLO Architects & Associates

This monumental architectural work will become part of history as a new landmark of the neighborhood.

Transport

From a never-before-seen jet pack to geodesic shoes, a new exhibit of Marc Newson’s designs for mobility

marc-newson-transport-3a.jpg

Designer Marc Newson‘s prolific body of work spans everyday objects to total luxury, all executed with the utmost attention to detail, form and function. The latest exhibit dedicated to his output focuses on designs related to mobility and human locomotion, displaying shoes, boats, jets and a new release—a sleek jet pack.

Newson explains much of his inspiration comes from an interest in post-war Italian design, an era when designers produced “every conceivable type of industrial product, from furniture to automobiles.”

His career clearly reflects this ideology, and combined with his adept use of materials and technology has led to stunning examples of modern transportation for brands such as Quantas, Riva, Ford and more.

“Transport” shows off Newson’s raw brilliance as a designer, his true understanding of engineering as well as how to integrate his signature style into every project.

“Marc Newson: Transport” is currently on view at NYC’s Gagosian Gallery through 16 October 2010. See more images from our look at the exhibition in the gallery below.
