Here are some more details from Khan:

On a budget of £250 we have just completed a pop-up Poundshop for Household+Sara Melin which is open for London Design Week. The location is within a former hair dressers on Roman Rd, a typical high street in the heart of London’s East End.

Taking an image of Christo’s Four Store Fronts Corner in 1964 as a point of departure, we used a combination of cotton dust-sheets, nylon rope and white-out paint as a palette, materials which are common scenery on this street of rapidly-changing businesses.

Pound Shop by Asif Khan

We invited Household+Sarah Melin to contribute furniture from their homes, which we piled within the space and then wrapped to create an eclectic landscape for showcasing the Poundshop products.

After a spectacular launch in April 2010, The Poundshop returns for London Design Week this September! Design collective Household and Sara Melin have joined forces to create the ultimate low cost, high quality shopping experience.

With a shop interior created with Asif Khan we would like to introduce products from new poundshoppers and past friends. Browse through products like wooden buttons from Peter Nancini, posters from APFEL, candle holders from William Smith and silkscreened cards from Lisa Jones. Welcome to the wallet friendly Poundshop, a boutique selling excellent products only for a pound!

Atari 1200 A300 Vintage Concept Sketches

pimg alt=”1200-concept5.jpg” src=”http://www.core77.com/blog/images/1200-concept5.jpg” width=”468″ height=”535″ class=”mt-image-none” style=”” //p

pThose of you that know me even casually know I savor a fine set of vintage concept sketches the way a sommelier might a rare bottle of Chateau Lafitte. So you can imagine my excitement when a co-worker at frog sent me this set of concept sketches from Atari, 1981 vintage. /p

pem” By 1981 Atari’s home computer division began looking into replacements for the aging 400/800 line of computers. Several types of systems were conceptualized and in the end it came down to two routes. One was called the A-300 project which involved a new series of Atari computers which would work as modules and plug together to form a complete computer system. The second was an evolution of the A-300 project that shed all of the expansion and modular design for a low profile, high tech computer system which became the Atari 1200XL Computer System.”/em/p

pWith things getting wrapped up in London, the city of Valencia is hoping to scoop up the attention of design community with a a href=”http://www.valenciadissenyweek.com/eng/index.php?url=homeidioma=eng”design week of its own/a, kicking off tomorrow. In recent years, neither Barcelona nor Madrid have quite managed to claim the widespread recognition of design enthusiasts, enjoyed by the likes of Paris, London and Milan.
