Except for maybe getting cast on his reality show, one would find it difficult to get up close and personal with Philippe Starck. Not just because he’s famous and always busy, but we imagine he’s a bit hyperactive, jumping from place to place, never spending much time in one set position. But now all your prayers have been answered (assuming all of them had to do with Philippe Starck), with the news that the Parisian wax museum, the Musee Grevin, has commissioned a wax statue of Starck, which will go on display in the middle of this month, showing the designer leaning upon one of his famous Louis Ghost chairs. It’s the first time a designer has been forged in wax at the museum (and given the perfectionism inherent in the profession, we can imagine it might be a little while before another one is made — unless of course Jonathan Ive gets interested).

Refrigerators, especially in the homes of active families, can be difficult to keep organized and free of expired foods. We’ve talked in the past about using a meal plan to help food move through your refrigerator before it rots. However, using a meal plan doesn’t necessarily keep a refrigerator from looking like it was hit by a very small tornado when its door was closed.
Like any storage space in your home, organizing your refrigerator to meet your needs can save you time and money over the long term. Here are some organizing helpers for inspiration:
When putting food into your refrigerator, make sure that you’re storing food in its recommended location and cleaning the shelves and door seals regularly as recommended by your refrigerator’s manufacturer. If you’re not familiar with the different temperature zones in your refrigerator, use a thermometer to find out the variances within your unit. You might be surprised to find that there are multiple variances even on a single shelf (the back of our shelves are three degrees cooler than the fronts). Be sure to follow the FDA recommendation and keep your refrigerator set at 40F degrees or below on all shelves to prevent listeria and other food-borne pathogens. Also, check out StillTasty.com if you have any questions about the shelf-life of the food you’re storing.
When I think of China, I think of silk brocade, dragon motifs, a rich history and delicious food. So naturally, when I heard of the Raffles Beijing Hotel, I was more than intrigued. Much like the country itself, the hotel has a long history in Beijing. It was first opened in 1917 at the Grand Hotel de Pekin and then taken over by the Raffles chain and fully renovated in 2006. The Beaux Arts-style building has 147 rooms and 24 suites with everything you could ask for. Just minutes away from the famed Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, the hotel’s central location is well worth the price. With a blend of Asian and French influences, the hotel is an oasis after a long day of sightseeing. Find some time to dine at Jaan their signature restaurant serving French cuisine or relax at the Writers’ Bar with a wide selection of drinks and cocktails. Sony has launched its new 3D TV with this football-themed spot starring Kaká, directed by Jonathan Glazer.
The ad, by Anomaly, gets around the problem of advertising a new, better television on older TV sets by addressing the issue head on. The spot is shot in 3D and appears to be transmitting incorrectly on standard TV sets, before the statement ‘Do not adjust your set’ appears, followed by ‘This is 3D TV’ and later ‘Maybe it’s time to get a 3D TV’. The ad certainly does its job of making you want to see it in full 3D glory, with its various special effects – which include explosions and what appears to be a gurning body builder – tantalisingly hard to make out in 2D.
The spot first aired on TV during the Champions League Final (in France, Portugal and Spain) and will roll out across Europe over the coming weeks, while the actual 3D version will play out in cinemas and on 3D sports channels in due course.
