Bag Of The Week: Marc by Marc Jacobs Bow Wow Wow Big Percy Cross Body Bag

imageThere’s no doubt in my mind that Marc Jacobs is a fixture of American fashion and I expect him to continue dressing women well into the future. While I’d be more than happy to fill my closet with almost everything designed by him, my wallet sure wouldn’t be. That’s why we should all be eternally grateful for the Marc by Marc Jacobs line. The cheaper (but certainly not cheap) diffusion line is a great way to get your Marc Jacobs fix without dropping $1000 on a dress. For those of us looking for the best bang for your buck, go for a all-purpose handbag. The Bow Wow Wow Big Percy Cross Body Bag is practical enough to take to work yet dressy enough for a girls night out on the town. The twisted knot and perforated details set this bag apart from the pack.

Philip Johnsons First House Goes Up for Sale in Westchester County

0603johnsale.jpg

Another Philip Johnson house has been put up for sale and this one will hopefully be less stressful than the Alice Ball House debacle from two years ago. The Booth House in New York’s Westchester County, Johnson’s very first residential building, pre-dating the Glass House by three years, has been on the market since mid-March, listed for a cool $2 million. It’s being sold by the retired architect Sirkka Damora, who had lived there with her now deceased famous photographer husband Robert Damora (who was also an architect, hence why he knew how to shoot buildings so well). It’s a stellar house, built in 1946 and looking very Johnson-esque modern, and it’s surprising that it hasn’t sold yet in the nearly three months its been available. But with this recent article about it in the Wall Street Journal, we’d imagine that its real estate agent will start getting more calls here about it very soon. So take this opportunity to sneak in for possibly your one chance to tour the place before it’s snapped up.

Spearheaded by French eco-friendly fashion and shoe designer Pierre André Senizergues (of Etnies fame), along with eight internationally renowned designers, Greend shirts show the creative underbelly of helping the world. Available at Collette during and after the Greend exhibit at Galerie Wanted Paris, this eight-piece limited-edition t-shirt collection aims to spread awareness about environmental issues as well as highlight the charity Global Green, which fosters a global value shift towards a sustainable and secure future.

Teaming up with a select group of international artists and designers including France’s Hey Ho, L.A.’s Marc Atlan and Tokyo’s Ritsuko Shirahama, the project hopes to help you proclaim eco convictions loud and clear while at the same time helping out a worthy cause (all proceeds will be donated to Global Green).

The accompanying show runs through 10 June 2010.

The end of the world as we know it

In their first collaborative exhibition, artists EA Byrne and Jamie Lau investigate our culture’s fascination with the ever-imminent End of the World…

In TEOTWAWKI: The end of the world as we know it, the FOLD Gallery in London presents a series of pieces, centring around an architectural model of a building at the point of imminent catastrophe – a nice inversion of the traditional 3D model and its promise of a bright utopian future.

TEOTWAWKI explores the way that fear manifests itself in contemporary society, be it through terrorist threat, environmental disaster or freak geographical events (ash falling from the sky, for example). We are all, say the aritsts, living constantly on the very edge of disaster. So how does that make us feel?

In addition to The Precipice, a thirteen-minute collage of scenes from disaster movies, various fictional propositions also reveal themselves brilliantly in a series of five propaganda posters also on show at the gallery. These reference the US’s colour-coded national security warning system and feature words from actual war posters with the imagery removed.

TEOTWAWKI is on until June 13 at the FOLD Gallery, 32 Fortescue Avenue, London E8 3QB. See foldgallery.com.
