CR Reader Survey: Degree Shows

This year’s degree shows are now well underway (for listings, check our post here and the subsequent comments). If you’re going (and we really hope you are) what do you want to see there?

This year’s crop of graduates are going to find life tougher than ever as, laden with debt, they emerge into an economy still struggling with the effects of recession. What can they do to persuade you to give them that all-important first job?

What does a graduate need to do to grab your attention? How can they boost their chances of getting noticed and, hopefully, getting a job?

Have you ever taken anyone on on the strength of their degree show?

What don’t you want to see? What drives you mad about degree shows or the way that graduates present their work at them?

Leaving the practicalities aside, if you are going to a degree show over the coming month, what are you hoping to see? Originality and verve? Great craft skills?

And if you’re not planning to visit any, why not?

Good luck to all the graduates showing work this year. We’ll be covering as many shows as we can get round here on the blog over the following weeks, leading to another Grad Special in our September issue (as last year)

Our 10 Favorite Gingham Looks For The Season!

imageGingham is plenty well-known, but it doesn’t always have the best rep. Either too retro, too cutesie, too “farmer,” or what-have-you, gingham’s been around for awhile, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be trendy. With the major popularization of plaid over the past couple years, it was only a matter of time before gingham came back in its pursuit, and this summer’s take on the print is the perfect combination of stylish and sweet. From gauzy scarves with metallic threading to summery shift dresses, gingham can look surprisingly fresh and new when updated with today’s updated silhouettes and details. I especially love how this corset dress from Asos straddles the line between sexy and demure, and can go from day to night in a snap. Take a look at the slideshow for my 10 favorite takes on gingham!

Style Stand-off: Leona Lewis And Ashley Tisdale In Jenny Packham

imageCelebs are constantly having to make appearances on the red carpet for movie premiers, record release parties, award shows and other events where they are required to dress to the nines. While donning a stunning dress, some killer heels and other fashionable accessories should be a blast for any girl, what happens when you’re shown wearing the same pieces as another celebrity? We all know how embarrassing it is to be seen in the same get-up, now imagine if this fashion blunder was posted for the whole world to see? Recently, this fashion faux-pas happened to Leona Lewis and Ashley Tisdale who were both seen wearing a sequined mini by Jenny Packham to their respective events. While both starlets shone just as brightly as the glittering dress itself, we can’t help but ask, Who wore it better? I love the sparkling stacked bracelets that Leona decided to pair it with as it really mirrors the shine of the dress, but I’m digging Ashley’s bare legged look more than Leona’s tights. What’s your opinion on this style stand-off? Let us know by taking the poll below!
