Posted in: Uncategorized
Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, the cosmetic masterminds behind Malin+Goetz Apothecary and Lab, have finally released their deodorant—three years in the making. Designed for very sensitive skin, the Eucalyptus Deoderant skips the potential hazards of anti-perspirant, but still protects against unwanted stains and odors.
The unisex Eucalyptus Deodorant comes in a clear stick comprised of the least irritating and most advanced natural ingredients and is free of aluminum, alcohol and paraben. Its natural fragrance doesn’t interfere with other soaps, lotions or perfumes and colognes, leaving the user with the freedom to design their own fragrance DNA. It won’t leave nasty stains or pit clumps either—after using it for the last week, I’m impressed with how comfortable it is and how well it works.
Each 2.6-ounce stick runs $18, should last about three months, and sells at the two Manhattan Malin+Goetz stores, on their website and at select other distributors.
Fashion House Gianfranco Ferré up for Sale; Auction Averted for Isabella Blow’s Estate
Posted in: UncategorizedAs we proceed through the various stages of grief concerning Givenchy’s decision to take its leave of the haute couture catwalk (courage, Riccardo!), we offer more fashion updates: good news if you want to acquire a fabled fashion house; not so much if you were looking to snag one of Issie’s famously wacky chapeaux. IT Holding, the parent of Italian fashion house Gianfranco Ferré, is now accepting offers for the bankrupt company. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the house has already attracted three potential bidders: the textile division of South Korean conglomerate Samsung Group, Italian private-equity firm Palladio Finanziaria, and a foreign financial investor. IT Holding is also selling off licensing and manufacturing business Ittierre and knitwear brand Malo.
Meanwhile, fashion fans can stop saving up for Christie’s planned September sale of the wardrobe of the late Isabella Blow. The auction, about which we twittered excitedly last month, was called off last week when a private buyer agreed to purchase the entire collection for an undisclosed sum. So who’s the new owner of a fabled wardrobe cache that included a whopping 90 pieces designed by Alexander McQueen, 50 Philip Treacy hats, as well as looks from the likes of John Galliano, Giles Deacon, and Hussein Chalayan? WWD has a feeling that it’s sartorial superstar Daphne Guinness, a close friend and distant relative of Blow. We’ve already pre-ordered the coffee-table book that was originally planned as a companion to the sale. It’s now due out in November from Thames & Hudson.

pI don’t think my fingers are fat, but I have a tough time with the iPhone keypad. I estimate my success rate with it is roughly 1%; ninety-nine times out of 100 I have multiple typos that I need to backspace over to and fix. It feels like I’m trying to repair a watch using two sausages./p
pFor digitally-challenged users like me, help is on the way from Cliff Kushler, the guy who invented the brilliant T9 predictive text system. Kushler’s latest invention, called A HREF=”http://www.swypeinc.com/” Swype/A, is a predictive text system specifically designed for touchscreens, so a user can swipe their finger on a particular sequence of letters, like connect-the-dots, and the program spits out the word you’re looking for. A demo:/p
