pTwo really nice videos have just gone up on a href=”http://www.innovationlab.eastman.com/Innovationlab/Insights/overview.htm”Eastman Innovation Lab’s site/a around sustainability. The first features Gary Waterworth Owen, founder of a href=”http://www.responseabilityalliance.com/”ResponseAbility Alliance/a and managing director of Lengthen Your Stride in a very poetic piece. The second features Dan Black Martin Blum from a href=”http://www.black-blum.com/homepage_0.html”Black + Blum/a discussing their new lunchbox product. Both well worth a watch./pa href=”http://www.core77.com/blog/materials/gary_waterworth_owen_black_blum_videos_up_at_eastman_innovation_lab_16862.asp”(more…)/a

“CD Sea” is the latest project by Bruce Munro, an award-winning UK artist renowned for creating spectacular displays with light.

Ice Pups

Tasty pet treats for the dog days of summer
icepups.jpg

You can love Ice Pups because the dry mix is well-designed—inexpensive to ship and easy to store, it makes either frozen treats or warm broth—or you can love it because of how convenient it makes whipping up all-natural treats for your dogs.

Lucy and Charlie Postins started The Honest Kitchen ten years ago, after looking for healthier food for their pets. They follow a simple practice—use only human-grade natural foods, prepare them in a commercial kitchen (not a pet food facility), and dehydrate the food for easy shipping and storing. They make Ice Pups, one of their newest products, from just a few familiar ingredients: Chicken, turkey, whey, dandelion, asparagus, watercress, honey and parsley. Mix a few spoonfuls in warm water as a tasty broth, or freeze in an ice cube tray. The frozen cubes make a fun and nutritious treat for hot days.

Ice Pups sell from The Honest Kitchen’s online shop ($15.50 for a 10oz container) or find a store near you.

A (questionable) fashion design exploit of a luggage-restriction loophole

pTime has a way of exaggerating things in your memory, but I seem to remember that airlines once had pretty lax carry-on restrictions, and I could swear everyone showed up for flights loaded up like Jed Clampett’s truck on IThe Beverly Hillbillies./I/p

div style=”align: right;”img src=”http://s3files.core77.com/blog/images/2010/07/0carryoncoat01.jpg” width=”468″ height=”300″ alt=”0carryoncoat01.jpg”//div

pThose days are long gone, of course, and current airline restrictions have put the kibosh on scale-breaking carry-on bags, but there is a loophole: There’s no limit placed on what you can carry on your physical person. /p

pTravelwear company A HREF=”http://www.scottevest.com/v3_store/subindex_new_on_sale.shtml” Scottevest/A is allegedly about to exploit this loophole with their supposedly forthcoming A HREF=”http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/04/scottevests-carry-on-coat-houses-all-of-your-portable-electroni/” Carry-On Coat/A. (I say “allegedly” because I’m still not convinced this isn’t a gag.) /p

div style=”align: right;”img src=”http://s3files.core77.com/blog/images/2010/07/0carryoncoat02.jpg” width=”468″ height=”364″ alt=”0carryoncoat02.jpg”//div

pAs you can see in the diagram, the insane amounts of pockets and compartments basically turns your body into a storage locker. Practical problems are manifold–while wearing the jacket you’re not going to sit through a flight, we’ll see if they let you stuff it in the overhead bin–and you sure ain’t gonna hug Granny Moses when you land, unless you want to fracture her pelvis with your iPad./p

div style=”align: right;”img src=”http://s3files.core77.com/blog/images/2010/07/0carryoncoat03.jpg” width=”468″ height=”320″ alt=”0carryoncoat03.jpg”//div

Nobrow

nobrow

We recently received this great package from Nobrow, showing off some of their work. Have a look below or check out their site for more pics and publications.

Nobrow is a print shop in London working with an impressive list of illustrators to create all kinds of books, prints, and other collectibles. They produce a wide range of materials, from neatly bound books to limited edition screen-print zines. And, if all that didn’t make them cool enough, they’ve also just opened a new gallery shop space in Shoreditch, East London. Beautiful work, can’t wait to see what Nobrow comes out with next!

Mike Jou’s clever pickup bed extender: More storage options, using half the parts

div style=”align: right;”img src=”http://s3files.core77.com/blog/images/2010/07/0mikejou02.jpg” width=”468″ height=”439″ alt=”0mikejou02.jpg”//div

pIt’s been a while since I’ve seen some good ol’ nuts-and-bolts ID, so I was happy to see Mike Jou’s A HREF=”http://www.coroflot.com/public/individual_set.asp?individual_id=5943set_id=372621″ Ford Full Size Truck Bed Extender/A project. (A bed extender is a big-ass grill you can bolt onto the back of a pickup bed over the open tailgate, giving you some extra storage space.)/p

div style=”align: right;”img src=”http://s3files.core77.com/blog/images/2010/07/0mikejou03.jpg” width=”468″ height=”641″ alt=”0mikejou03.jpg”//div

pDetroit-based designer A HREF=”http://www.coroflot.com/public/individual_profile.asp?individual_id=5943″ Jou/A looked at the traditional tubular bed extender, which only has one position; he then designed a more easily-configurable system, made from what looks to be plastic rather than metal, and cut the parts count in half./p
