Day 1: The Link. South Africa scores the opening goal of the tournament
The World Cup is drawing to a close this weekend, but if you’d like a lasting commemoration of the tournament, Adidas and 180 Amsterdam may have just the thing…
Day 2: The Power House. Steven Gerrard’s goal for England – remember when it all seemed so possible? Sigh
Day 3: Teamgeist 4-0, Germany pulverise Australia
Two emerging African artists, Paul Kasemwana and Espoir Kennedy, have been commissioned by Adidas and 180 to create paintings daily throughout the tournament, celebrating key moments from the games. Each painting is available for purchase via eBay, with all proceeds going to Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Foundation. A couple have already sold and some of the auctions run out in a matter of hours, so act fast if you want to pick up your favourite. I’ve put links to the ones shown here that are still available under the images, plus visit adidasthequest.com to see more available works.
Day 6: Unite – a celebration of team Bafana Bafana. Bid to buy it on eBay
Day 8: American Dream. The USA scores a last-minute winner to finish top of Group C. Bid to buy it on eBay
As part of the project, there are also 32 portraits of Adidas’ star players from each country currently on display in the Adidas media centre in Johnannesburg, and on a mobile scoreboard that is travelling around the city during the tournament.
Day 10: In Concerto. Kaká sets up a Luis Fabriano goal against the Ivory Coast. Bid to buy it on eBay
Day 11: Oleeee!!! David Villa scores twice for Spain against Honduras
The paintings form part of Adidas and 180’s wide-ranging ad campaign for this year’s World Cup. If you like this aspect of the work, you should also check out the Adidas online Live Graphic Novel, here.
Day 14: The Shock. Slovakia knock out the holders Italy, with a shock 3-2 victory. Bid to buy it on eBay
Day 16: Black Star. Happy days for Ghana, the only remaining African side, as they qualify for the quarter-finals. Sadly, their days in the competition were numbered, however. Bid to buy it on eBay
More info on the Live Quest paintings, including more artworks and films of the paintings being made, is at adidasthequest.com.

p”Are current suitcases still suitable for modern nomads, or do they need to be redefined?” This is the question asked by designer Alberto Villareal and A HREF=”http://destroyafteruse.com/” Agent/A, a “strategic intelligence embassy” based in Mexico. /p
pTheir answer comes in the form of Move-On, a suitcase collection designed with the modern-day traveling family in mind. The video at the bottom pretty much shows it all, but we’ll give you a brief rundown with text and photos:/p
pThe front portion of the SURFN carry-on splits off and swings downwards, serving as a wheeled platform on which you can tow bored children or other pieces of luggage./p

First the real news and then something of the slightly lesser-than variety. The first is that Charles Spencer King, the designer/engineer responsible for creating the Range Rover has passed away.. King led a team in the late 1960s to develop the car, following stints at Rolls-Royce and as an high-powered gas turbine engine designer. According to the NY Times‘ obituary, King was saddened to watch as his car made a shift from the outdoor explorer to the suburbanite with too much money. “To use them for the school run, or even in cities or towns at all, is completely stupid.” This quote, unfortunately, segues nicely into the news that, on the eve of its 40th birthday, Range Rover has just pulled a Lady Gaga-for-Polaroid move by announcing that they’ve named former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham, as their new Creative Design Director. The company has said that it wants to use her skills as both a fashion designer and a rich person who is familiar with luxury goods to make sure the interiors of special edition cars would be even more appealing to the sorts of people Charles Spencer King wouldn’t want driving them in the first place.

pNow this is some truly brilliant package design: Mycologist Paul Stamets’ A HREF=”http://www.lifeboxcompany.com/” Life Box/A, a simple cardboard box impregnated with a mixture of Department-of-Agriculture-approved seeds. /p
blockquoteThe Life Box suite of products builds upon the synergy of fungi and plants by infusing spores and seeds together inside of packaging materials that can be planted.
pThe Tree Life Box is made of recycled paper fiber. In this fiber, we have inserted a wide variety of tree seeds, up to a hundred, dusted with mycorrhizal fungal spores. The mycorrhizal fungi protect and nurture the young seedlings. For millions of years, plants and beneficial fungi have joined together in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship./p
pYou can get started by simply tearing up the box, planting in soil, and watering./p
pThe fungi “sprout” or germinate to form an attachment with root cells and extend into the soil with a network of fine cobweb of cells called mycelium. The mycelium mothers the seed nursery by providing nutrients and water, thus protecting the growing trees from disease, drought, and famine./blockquote/p
pStamets estimates that 1 tree out of 100 will survive to the 30-year mark, at which point it will have sequestered one ton of carbon. And how’s this for an endorsement: Al Gore is shipping his new book, IA HREF=”http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1ISBN=9781594867347ourl=Our-Choice%2FAl-Gorecm_mmc=Skimlinks-_-k186085-_-j12871747k186085-_-PrimaryIF=N” Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis/A/I, in Life Boxes.br /
