Clogs For Summer To Fall! Love ‘Em Or Hate ‘Em?

imageWhile fashion may not be as divisive as say politics, religion or Betty vs. Veronica, there are some trends and clothing articles that cause quite a rift and many a tiff between the sartorial-minded. Much like overalls, harem pants and jumpsuits, when it comes to clogs, you either love ’em, or you hate ’em. Despite your personal preference for the wood heeled wonders, thanks to Chanel and Miu Miu€™s spring collections, the clog has arguably been the shoe of 2010. It€™s impossible to read a blog, check out an accessories report or Google image search your favorite fashionista without coming face to face with the clog.
Personally, I am a huge fan of the clog, and have been since my formative years back in the 90s when I rocked this trend for the first time (probably wearing a pair of overalls, natch). This time around, I’ll be pairing mine with feminine mini dresses (adding tights come fall), or cuffed boyfriend jeans and a simple top. My styling tip would be to let this funky accessory shine, don’t pair it with too many other trends or stand-out pieces… and no long skirts please, lest the 70s come calling.

Whether you are like me and ready to dive right in to this trend, or aren€™t sure if you can quite get over the milkmaid vibe, there is a clog out there for every budget… and every commitment level. Click on the slideshow for my favorite clogs, designer to discount.

Must Have Now: Ugly Monster Pouch by Chloe

imageMaybe it’s because summer is nearing an end and school is right around the corner, (or maybe because I never fully got over my obsession with school supplies) but I find this pouch by Chloe utterly adorable! I will never give up on that little kid that lives inside of me who’s always ready to embrace a fun, quirky addition to my style. Of course, as soon as I spotted this Ugly Monster Pouch I had to share it with everyone! The monster on the front may not be very scary, but he’s totally cute! This little zip pouch is great for carrying all your essentials so they don’t get lost in your purse. Use it as a wallet, makeup bag, coin purse, or maybe even to hold some writing utensils! Whatever you do, don’t hide this monster… show him off!

Spanish architect Andrés Jaque has completed this house on a sloping site in Ibiza with a jumble of cascading terraces supported on stilts.

House in Never Never Land has been built in and among the site’s existing features, with trees growing up through the interiors of some of the rooms.

As well as the main house, two rentable cabins sit on the 1300 square-metre site with access via bridges.

Here’s some more from the architects:

House in Never Never Land

The young Madrid based architect Andrés Jaque has designed the House in Never-Never Land, the project cascades down a 1300 m2 sloping plot in Ibiza.

Never Never Land House by Andrés Jaque

The area where this house is placed is a picturesque natural hill far from the island’s major tourist attractions.

Never Never Land House by Andrés Jaque

The idea of the project is based on three main concepts: integration with the natural surroundings, incorporation of desire society, and getting financial security for the future.

Never Never Land House by Andrés Jaque

The architect’s primary aim was to adapt the geometry of the house to the existing vegetation and to carve out the construction in the open spaces between the trees and bushes, even to the extent of incorporating trees at certain points.

The house opens up completely to its environment in a typically Mediterranean lifestyle where areas such as the terrace or the pool become hubs of activity.

The search for desire is based on the way Andrés Jaque has imagined different possible everyday situations in the house.

In the current economic climate, buying property is seen as a way of guaranteeing one’s future financial security – a sort of investment fund that grows in value with every passing year.

With this in mind, the architect designed an ensemble of three distinct elements: a main house, plus two independent cabins that could be rented out in the future.

The slope of the land ensures that each unit enjoys an unimpeded view of the sea and its own piece of garden.

The motivation behind the House in Never-Never Land is to create an environmentally responsible project that respects the beauty and biodiversity of the valley, to provide a means of financial security for the owner, and to construct a space for possibilities and desires, related to the traditions of the island.

Who Let Their Hair Down Best At The New York ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ Premiere?

imageJust a little bit ago, big name stars from the movie, “Eat, Pray, Love”, showed up to the New York movie premier and every single one looked their red-carpet best! Slinky gowns, sophisticated minis and sparkling jewels were abundant, but the most noticeable thing about this movie premiers red-carpet fashion? Everyone looked perfectly coiffed with shining hair and natural waves. While chignons are always pretty and appropriate, wearing your hair down for a formal event gives your look a vibe of youthfulness and sensuality and waves add a natural, sex-kitten appeal. Who do you think let their hair down the best at the New York movie premier of “Eat, Pray, Love”? Was it star of the show, Julia Roberts, who turned up in sleek shining tresses, or acting veteran Phylicia Rashad and her shoulder length swirls? Perhaps you prefer newcomer, Arlene Tur, and her beautiful blowout full of sex appeal! Let us know what you think by taking the poll below!

Iso table by Dylan Freeth for MARK

British brand MARK will launch this series of wooden tables and desks by Dylan Freeth at 100 % Design in London next month.

Called Iso, the tables are assembled with complex wooden blocks at the corners that join wedge-shaped legs to the plain top.

The tables come in round, square, rectangular and custom sizes, all with the same leg detailing.

Here’s some more information from MARK:

MARK to launch Iso desks and tables by Dylan Freeth at 100% Design 2010

Furniture manufacturer MARK are introducing a new product range by Dylan Freeth at this year’s 100% Design. ‘Iso’ is a range of tables and desks that marries an ultra-simple concept with great detailing and execution.

Iso table by Dylan Freeth for MARK

The Cornish company’s guiding values are sustainability and liveability. With Iso they have addressed these by going for the most pared down design, believing this to be the most versatile and practical and therefore long lasting. The idea is also that the choice of sizes and materials offered creates different versions suited to home, office and hospitality use.

These include round, square, rectangular and custom sizes. All share the signature joinery detail of the wedge shaped leg and all are manufactured entirely in Cornwall.

What looks so simple is in fact a significant engineering challenge, to combine the necessary stability and strength with such fine lines. There is also an optional cable management facility – used either as a convenient leads tidy for home use, or part of a more extensive system for the office.

Dylan has previously designed the Six coat stand and Horizon screen which share the functional purpose and clean geometry of Iso. He explains “I’ve aimed to design a set of legs and other parts that combine in different ways to make the tables easy to customise in terms of size, finish and function, easy to store, easy to transport and install. I hope the design detailing and quality of manufacture will make the tables and desks good to live with for a very long time”

MARK will be at 100% Design, stand H26, where the Iso tables will be shown with products by Tomoko Azumi, Anna Hart, John Miller and Sam Johnson.
