The Wisdom of Caleb

James Jarvis e Russell Waterman stanno lavorando al nuovo progetto The Wisdom of Caleb.

The PUMA Mopion Bike

A Sturdy Companion

PUMA Mopion is rock steady for the daily grind. It mixes city bike features, and cargo bike features, making it a sturdy companion. It comes with a super-size innovative front carrier for heavy duty transport of your groceries or other needs. Developed for city dwellers, Mopion features a light aluminum frame, making it a one-of-a-kind lightweight cargo bike weighing only 22 kilos. The geometry holds the body in a slightly inclined, but still heads-up position for navigational ease and exceptional balancing.

The name Mopion derives from an island in the Atlantic Ocean, symbolizing the new Trans-Atlantic approach and balancing PUMA’s European heritage with American popular culture. Mopion will be available in white, black and in the bold color combination magenta/blue/lime. The colors are likewise inspired by vibrant island colors. Mopion defies the expected.

The PUMA Bike Line
Created for ease of movement, urban transportation, and individual appeal, PUMA and the Biomega design team have collaborated to produce the next evolution in commuter bikes. Smart European design and commuter technology collide with urban American style – and culminate in a completely new Trans-Atlantic bike paradigm. PUMA pared down its bikes to their essentials and constructed a new bike line with innovative and thoughtful details that meet the needs of a unique consumer set. The PUMA Bike line is designed for urban mobility and finds innovative solutions for the everyday annoyances that come from maneuvering bikes through urban obstacles. The collection redefines and reinvigorates the city ride.

By pulling together the best parts of practical, continental city and folding bikes, BMXs, American cruisers, and fixies, these PUMA Bikes create a whole new urban typology, one that stands out in the crowd and knows how to make its own way.

Mopion will be launched at the Eurobike and Interbike shows in September 2010, and will be available from spring 2011.

Van Gogh Museum Finishes Restoration of The Bedroom

0902bedrestor.jpg

Following up on a post from back in March, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam have finished their six-month restoration of the famous painter’s piece “The Bedroom” and will have it hanging again as of tomorrow. If you’d missed the work done over those last six months, you should really take the rest of the day to dig through the archives of the blog the museum put together to chronicle the exhaustive process from start to finish. If you ever wanted a crash course in both art history (with particular regard to Van Gogh in this case, of course) and what all is involved in restoring art that’s now more than 120 years old, you’ll find it right there on their blog. It gets incredibly detailed at times, getting into why he painted as he did, why materials were used the way they were, and how, where, and why the painting was damaged and what went in to fixing it, all accompanied by macro photos and even scans of x-rays taken during the endeavor.

England Home Kit by Peter Saville for Umbro

The shoulder panels of the new England football kit feature a fabric printed with small coloured crosses, designed by British graphic designer Peter Saville.

The design for sports brand Umbro depicts the St. George’s cross in four colours and is intended to represent the country’s diverse cultural makeup.England Home Kit by Peter Saville for Umbro

England Home Kit by Peter Saville for Umbro

The text that follows is from Umbro:

As England look to the start of their campaign for Euro 2012, we’re very excited to announce a new deal between the Football Association and Umbro, that will see us working together until at least 2018. At the same time, we can also reveal a new home kit that the team will wear as they battle for a place in the finals.

Giving the team a fresh new look, the new home shirt builds on the tailored principles behind the previous shirt and the current away kit, using the latest in design technology whilst adding a new, colourful graphic design to the template.

So what’s the thinking behind this design? The idea, another innovative approach to football kit design from Umbro, is inspired by the involvement of a true cultural icon in this particular project. Peter Saville – iconic graphic designer and all-round cultural connoisseur – has designed a special fabric print for the new kit, which features on the shoulder panels of the shirt.

Saville – who initially made his name through his work with Factory Records, and is now recognised as one of Britain’s leading creative minds – has crafted this design through a consideration of England’s cultural makeup. Inspired by the increasingly diverse fabric of England, the design takes the traditional St. George’s cross and reinterprets it as a reoccurring motif in four different colours – the traditional red, blue and green which feature in England’s three lions crest, plus a blend of all three which comes out as a striking purple.

Players names will appear within the fabric, to underline how they’re a part of the fabric of modern England. The shirt itself is inspired by the formal designs in England’s past, combined with the latest in design innovation.

Inspired by the idea behind this cultural fabric, we decided to reveal the new kit on a special England team line-up that you can see at the top of the page, made up of some of the best young footballing talent in the country. Alongside established names such as Rooney and Joe Hart, we’ve also picked out players such Jade Bailey, one of the best prospects in the England Women’s team, and Eric Dier, an English teenager playing abroad in Portugal.

Together, they epitomise the different ideas on what it means to be English that the new fabric of England represents. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a closer look at the kit itself, the players we’ve chosen and the man who’s designed it, ahead of the shirt going on sale on October 12th. Ahead of that, you can see the kit being worn for the first time when England take on Bulgaria in their opening Euro 2012 game this Friday.

Taking its inspiration from traditional formal shirts from England’s past, the new England home shirt is constructed from two cotton based fabrics – a thicker one offering protection on the front and back, and a more flexible material providing movement order the arm,

Featuring the New Fabric of England graphic design on the shoulder, the shirt also features a new longer, more open neckline, which provides greater movement across the chest. With the traditional England crest and the Umbro double diamond embroidered on the chest, the new England home shirt mixes the best in design innovation with a strong link to our footballing heritage.
