Shoe of the Week – Jessica Simpson ‘Kingsley’ Bootie

imageFashion’s favorite functional trim may be the exposed zipper, but we’ve been seeing more and more clothing and accessories that feature exposed elastic as the main design detail. As much as we love a chunky exposed zipper, we couldn’t be more excited to see elastic taking the spotlight and being used for more than just waistbands. Take the Jessica Simpson Kingsley; this black suede bootie’s classic silhouette is given a chic utilitarian update with the thick band of elastic at the front of the foot. Not just a design detail, the elastic serves a practical function of stretching to allow easy slip on of the shoe. At the same time sexy and tough, this unexpected detail is sure to turn heads.

Shoe of the Week – Steve Madden ‘Troopa’ Boots

imageWant a pair of versatile, yet trendy boots this winter? Get combat boots. More specifically, the pair we’re lovin’ at Stylehive: Steve Madden Troopa boots. If you missed this trend in the early ’90s (or if you’re too young to remember it), then it’s time to integrate it in your wardrobe – stat! Combat boots are adorable with a t-shirt and jeans or even better, a short girly dress or flirty skirt-like the way Kendall Jenner sported them at the Teen Choice Awards 2010!

What makes this pair great (besides that hot $100 price tag) is the classic construction and clean lines of the boots. They’re rugged, comfy and cool enough to wear next year too.

Alternative to Everything

Relive the glory of grunge with Keds’ limited-edition sneaks channelling the ’90s
ked90s.jpg

Of the ’90s artifacts, “Parental Advisory” labels, Riot grrrls, the Internet and Napster, personal technology like the iMac and Palm Pilot, Donna Martin marrying David Silver in Malibu and O.J. Simpson driving his white Bronco up the 405 stand out. But the cultural backdrop to this prolific decade was a grunge-fueled rock scene, which created both songs to headbang to and iconic fashions like the flannel shirt.

To commemorate, Keds Century Collection created the “Alternative to Everything” limited edition sneakers in light and dark denim lace-ups and plaid slip-ons (women only). The classic rubber soled shoes sell online exclusively from Keds Original Sneaker for $55 for the mens “Champion Grunge” and $45 for the womens “Champion Riff.”

Shoe of the Week – Y-3 Leather Cutout Heel Sandals

imageSometimes, you need something a little unusual to spice up your basic tee-shirt and jeans. Enter the stand out, bright-red stylings of the Y-3 Cutout-heel sandals. As is customary for this hybrid Adidas and Yoji Yamamoto brand, these bright-red leather sandals have the Y-3 logo prominently displayed on both the heel and foot strap. Our favorite detail of these shoes, however, is the funky cutout perspex heel that will have people doing double takes as you walk by. But rest assured, the avant garde cut-out of this heel won’t make your feet suffer for high fashion. Rather, these sandals have an easy slip on shape and comfortable toe-post at the patent leather straps across the foot. These sandals will have you looking, and feeling, like you are walking on air!

Airwalk Enigma Jpn Collection

Shoe of the Week – See by Chloe Printed Rain Boots

imageOnce upon a time, we dreaded the days our mothers would make us wear weather appropriate clothing. Rain boots, rain coats and mittens, they were the worst! Chalk it up to maturity or perhaps, more realistically, the plethora of adorable weather-proof clothing that has been showing up in stores the past couple fall seasons, but nowadays, we are singing quite the different tune.

The adorable rain boots from the likes of Hunter, Marc Jacobs and Tretorn practically have us doing rain dances for the chance to splash in some puddles and show off our rainy day duds.

This season, however, the standout pair has to be from See by Chloe. Their tall rain boot breaks the mold with lace-up detailing, a mock side flap pocket and adorable star printed lining. These See by Chloe boots are so cute and stylish, we are considering donning them out and about even when the sun is shining.

Everyday OTKs!

imageFirst of all … what exactly is OTK, you may ask. OTK is just a short acronym for the trendy boot style that’s here to stay. Over-the-Knee boots are flattering because they elongate the leg while keeping you warm and covered for these chilly days ahead.

For many of us, we may already be aware of this hot boot trend, but thigh-high, stiletto versions may be just a little too impractical and dangerous to go running around in during the day. Plus, while these sexy shoes may be perfect for a night out with the girls, they’re too risque for everyday errands and activities.

But we love this boot trend too much to not find a way to wear it to work, to school and anywhere else that strikes our fancy! Opt for a version that is flat or wedged for more standing support, and look for looser fits of leather and suede to give your look a casual, edgy vibe. Equally cute over leggings or paired with a pretty dress, you’ll find yourself loving your OTKs everyday!
