For The Sake Of A Clean Shave

One of my earliest memories of my father has been to watch him carefully follow the protocols of his shaving rituals. Needless to say, when my brother was ready to try his hand, my father proudly shared his techniques and even gifted him his shaving mug as if it were a family heirloom. The Obtineo Shave Set strikes a nostalgic cord with me and I sure with guys too. Currently on its last leg for funding, let’s know why this safety razor display shave mug is special.

Obtineo is a sustainable product that can be handed down from generation to generation. Kinda treated like an heirloom. Taking little space on your bathroom countertop or the back of a toilet, this bathroom accessory hang dries your favorite daily razor and puts it on display proudly. It fits nicely into the palm of your hand while you use it to create your lather and it washes out clean every time. Its eco-friendly approach and ergonomic design makes it easy to handle. I’m a girl so I can’t be a judge of it, but if Obtineo has intrigued you, then do buy one here and let me know how it works for you.

Why Does This Toothpaste Have A Hole?

Good question! When it comes to the toothpaste, even the most generous of us becomes a conservative and wants to squeeze out the last bit of paste. Many ideas have surfaced before and adding to the list is this Swing Toothpaste. Sporting a new inventive design, the hole at the end of the tube is meant to be used as a spinner. Simply put your finger in and give the tube a good spin, centrifugal force will push the toothpaste towards the tube top and make for an easy squeeze. I think it’s a very doable design and adds a dash of fun to the brushing routine. Maybe even motivate children to keep up with the dental hygiene!

Spaced Out Connection

The Fold Socket is a power strip that can accommodate different configurations of plugs and place them with ease. The biggest upside is its clever design, the inter socket spaces and expandability feature. The scientific design is convenient and makes the whole setup quite portable. Would love to give it a try.

Multisensory Toys for Autism

Understanding and acceptance of autism is a growing movement, and with that includes design that aims to aid the development of social skills. This simple yet effective tool, called Joyco, is a game for parents and children that focuses on playful interaction. Tactile elements stimulate pleasure in the form of touch and an interactive hoop game encourages eye contact with mom or dad!

This robot sucks!

Literally! ERO is an award-winner concrete deconstruction robot designed to disassemble concrete structures while preserving the material for reuse in new prefab buildings. It uses high-powered water jets in its moveable arm to crack the surface and break up the slab, and then sucks up the mixed debris. In the reservoir, it separates the mixture, and creates a labeled, packaged asset that can be instantly transferred to the factory for remolding into usable blocks. No dust, no waste!

Power Of P

Apparently the Urea in your pee reacts with the hydrogen ions in water and releases electrons. If we go by this scientific information then there is a possibility of your pee generating electricity. This harnessed energy can be used to power the sensors that trigger flushing of the loo and perhaps the entire lighting set up of the bathroom. I have no validation to this theory but if it can be done, then someone please step on it. Otherwise a lot of pee is just going down the drain for nothing!

Hide your ugly AC unit!

Designers Daniel LiCalzi & Paul Genberg got sick of looking at all of the ugly air conditioners sticking out of people’s windows in the summer, so they’ve created this clever cover that gives the unit a makeover! Babilawn, inspired by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, allows the user to express their own personal style in the form of a mini lawn fit with a tiny white picket fence, daisies, and even a garden gnome! It instantly turns an eye sore into an adorable window ornament!

Babilawn is lightweight, easy to install, and fits any air conditioner! It comes in three sizes each made up of multiples of a single 7.5″ x 10.5″ grass section. Each section has it’s own super strong rare earth magnet that keeps it secured to the top the the air conditioner. This keeps each grass section lightweight and allows Babilawn to be arranged to fit any size air conditioner. Fod odd-size units, Babilawn can be cut down to size with a regular pair of scissors. To avoid overheating or mold growth, each grass section is raised approximately 1 inch off the top of the AC to allow proper ventilation.

The Flux Table

The intricate geometry of the Flux table is derived from “Toranj,” a mathematical pattern used in Iranian architecture that generally appears as a radial effect in a rhomboid contour. The resulting structure is a three dimensional extension of the pattern, with legs that appear to drip from the convergence points of the base pattern. Though its inspiration is rooted in tradition, the form and color palette are ultramodern and even a tiny bit gothic.

Drinkable Sea Water

Before you scream ‘absurd’, let me tell you that I am talking about Puri – a sea water desalinating bottle. There are several ways to remove saline from sea water, for example evaporation, vapor-pressure, and ion-exchange membrane method but all of them are not practical for use on a life raft or rescue boat and require big equipments. The Puri on the other hand is a slim portable bottle that works with a pumping action. Take a look at its video below.

Puri is a 2013 IDEA Design Awards entry.
