How many times have I found myself on the row machine, just eating those meters, only to be derailed by a loosely hanging headphone cable, dragging my phone out of my pocket, tossing it across the floor as if Gorilla Glass really was unbreakable. It’s a terrible feeling. I’ve since switched to a bluetooth headset which makes me look kind like a douche in the gym but I digress. The POGO aims to solve this problem by using 4 pins to magnetically connect and breakaway upon stress. Designer Jon Patterson is currently looking for a partner to mass produce it.

Here is an enterprising concept that will not only get you where you want to be but also keep you in shape and help conserve energy. The 1/2 Lift Energy Saving Elevator is a lift that stops at half floors. For example, instead of stopping on the second floor, the elevator will stop between the second and third floor, and those who want to go to the second and third floor can get off here. Superb!

By lowering the frequency of stoppages a lot of electricity is conserved. Plus it will do you good to take the stairs even if it is for just half the floor!

Designed specifically for use in airports, the Slater lounge applies the best of biomimicry to create a personal, relaxing and private sanctuary while you wait for your flight! The Whistle is a simple glow-in-the-dark blowing implement that survivors buried under rubble can use to attract attention. The compact size and ball-shape make them easy to roll into the rubble area and thanks to their glow, they can be easily located. I suppose the rescue team has to throw in a handful, in the hope that someone catches one and blows the whistle.

Whistle is a 2013 IDEA Awards entry.

Chances are, your upright refrigerator has more than a few items long overdue to be theown out. It’s in part due to our increasingly hectic schedules, but also because the design isn’t conducive to food organization and management. Future Connect refrigeration ditches the large fridge/freezer combo for a modular system of refrigerating units that compartmentalize meals in trays that can also be used for cooking. Each unit also informs the user when items are approaching expiration. Check the vid for more!
