Milan Design Week 2009: Sander Mulder

SanderMulder.jpg

At first we had no idea where the loud music was coming from, but while walking to a party we stumbled upon the Sander Mulder showroom. It was quite a nice surprise to finally find the music source, and blame it on a dog! Woof Woof “Woofers.”

Milan Design Week 09: Urban Bike Messengers

Because I spent many years in Portland Oregon, and many more in New York City, I assumed bike messaging was ubiquitous business. This is not the case in Italy. Today we met the first, and only bike messengers in all of Milan, Urban Bike Messengers. Give ’em a call!

Milan Design Week 09: Tuttobene

tute1.jpg

A few nights ago, Tuttobene threw a party and we had consumed so much Prosecco that we didn’t remember any of the designs…so we had to go back today to visit the exhibition with a clearer head. The display was the most inspiring we’ve seen so far. (Stay tuned for a Bruce Tharp drive-by!)

Milan Design Week 09: Post Futurist Manifesto Dialogues: Emma Firmin

We had the pleasure to talk to Emma Firmin, editor and co-founder of DAMn magazine. In collaboration with Galleria Blanchaert and Mood they were organising the very nice exhibition Prophets and Penitents – Confessions of a Chair in The Basilica of Sant Ambrogio, a world-known monument in the heart of Milano, built in 379 AD. Another post about the exhibition will follow soon.

We apologize for the beeping in the background. Since we were in a church filming this interview we assume it is a spiritual morse code message from god. If anybody out there is able to decode it please let us know.

Milan Design Week 09: Post Futurist Manifesto Dialogues: Michelangelo Pistoletto

Michelangelo Pistoletto is one of the most important artists alive in Italy and founding member of the Arte Povera movement. Cittadellarte, an art foundation created by him, embraces the idea that art should play an active role in everyday life and act responsibly as a transformer for all different areas of life.

We are delighted to have had him as our first guest to interview in the Lago Appartamento for our series of post futurist manifesto dialogues that we keep conducting during the Milan Design Week.

Milan Design Week 09: Public Design Festival

publicdesignF.jpg

Today it was a great pleasure to meet with Lorenzo Castellini, director Esterni, and the brain behind the Public Design Festival. The Public Design Festival is made up of many installations around the Zona Tortona. Instead of renting a fancy showroom, each installation uses a parking space, which sends symbolic message on top of the straight-forward experience. Milan Design Week 09: Video Drive-by: “Tent Sofa” and Bed by Philippe Malouin

Today we traveled to the fair grounds, where we found Philippe Malouin‘s Tent Sofa via Campeggi. At first it appears to be an ordinary chair, but thanks to Velcro, Malouin’s design transforms into much more!

Milan Design Week 09: Design Academy Eindhoven

DAE2.jpg

More great work out of Design Academy Eindhoven. Yesterday we were traveling to a forum, when we were happily distracted by these wonderful student designs. In addition to the items on display, the students opened a sweet little store. Nice.
