Spinal Lamp

The big brother of the original smaller version, the Hanko Large Suspension Light is composed of 80 individually cut plywood pieces held together by an acrylic frame and 3 steel cables. The vertebrae-like structure’s circular illumination is made possible with a flexible, silicon coated, white LED tube light. Mostly diffused by the plates, the light source is visible at different points depending on the user’s perspective.

Berlin’s Water Enhanced Tempelhof

The W.E.T. system harnesses solar energy and H20 to enhance public spaces. As it rains, the design collects water used for cleaning & fire emergencies. Excess water is kept in an underground collection tank where it is then dispersed through misters to keep the public cool on hot days. On especially rainy days, extra water is used to supplement the surrounding irrigation. On top of the beacon, a solar panel collects the sun’s energy to power lighting at the foot & top of the system that keeps the area illuminated at night.

Static Sparks

Sparks is an ingenious modular lighting system that takes inspiration from a number of naturally occurring geometrical shapes and molecular structures. The resulting aesthetic lands somewhere between a DNA chain and a frozen spark of light! Every module in the system can be rotated 360°, making it easily adaptable to any architectural situation. Layout possibilities are almost endless, so each impression is completely different in its spatial context.

Jellyfish Lamps

Control Freak Lamp

This clever lamp design, called Balance, forces the user to examine the depth of their virtual dependance on tech like their phone, computer, etc., in hopes that they will find a healthy balance. Now, how does an everyday object like a lamp do that? By simply requiring that the user relinquish their phone in order to operate! Like an action/reward psychological game, the user must plug their phone into the attached cable and place it in the tray to activate the lamp. Need light? Gotta put that phone down!

Flatter than Flat Lighting

The minimalist Gru (Italian for “crane”) lamp is characterized by a simplistic form with total flatness that gives it a unique aesthetic meant to blur the lines between 2 & 3D. However thin, the design is as durable as it is ductile. This is made possible by use of Vetronite material which not only provides structural stability, but also acts as a glass epoxy conductor to deliver power directly to the LED lights without wires!
