A Lamp with Multiple Personalities

Lighting is a delicate thing- sometimes you want to set the mood with a little ambient glow and sometimes you need direct light for working. The Captiva lamp makes it possible to switch between both in just seconds. Simply adjust the flexible neck to cast a focused beam or point it upwards into the shade to diffuse the light!

Functional Flexability

Switch-It is an exploration into both flexible material and flexible functionality. At first glance it appears to be a classic floor lamp, but slide it down and the shade expands to a flat surface, transforming it into an occasional side table. It’s great conversation-starting piece that’s perfect for compact spaces.

The Lamp That Wants to Be a Flower

This clever design might seem a little obvious, but it’s actually quite thoughtful! The BLUM lamp’s floral inspiration is apparent in its form, but it also takes inspiration from living plant’s energy process. Set the plant by the window, and solar panels harvest the sun’s energy to power the bright LED lights. It’s the flower that gives back after the sun goes down!

Limber Lamp

Gotta love this clever design by Product Tank! The Clamp Lamp was inspired by those silly collapsing toys that stand and fall with the press of a button. Like the toys, the lamp uses an internal system of cables that make it flexible when the lever is gripped or rigid when released. The user can bend it, move it, twist it, or turn it to the desired shape or light direction with one simple squeeze.

Not Your Average Industrial Lamp

This unusual lamp design goes to show that a little tape and cardboard can go a long way! Composed of just compressed cardboard and LED tape (along with a few other binding agents) the Amparo lamp makes for a versatile, cost efficient lighting solution that will work almost anywhere. Hang it, mount it, desk it, drop it, hold it… the list goes on! Did I mention that it’s flat-pack ready?!

CONST lamp by THINKK studio at Ventura Lambrate

CONST lamp by THINKK studio

Milan 2012: Bangkok designers THINKK studio have created a lamp that slots together like a children’s toy.

The designers simplified the product into three basic components; a base, a body and a shade.

A marble block base balances the lamp and has a serrated edge for holding pencils.

The octagonal oak body can be rotated to position the lamp at different angles, while an LED light sits within a metallic red, yellow or white shade.

The lamp is being presented at Ventura Lambrate in Milan this week. Click here to see another adjustable lamp they are exhibiting.

Here are some more details from THINKK studio:

Const uses “play” as a methodology for design process. The main idea behind the desk lamp CONST are three basic components; base, body and shade. Keeping in mind these simple elements and their role, Const playfully combines expression with function. The marble base keeps the octagon-shaped wood body balanced and the same time one can adjust the angle of the shade by rotating it. CONST gives one the ability to have fun with functionality.
