Here are some more details from the designer:

The smell of a home baked loaf, the taste of a crunchy crust, the texture of a slice of whole grain bread, all of these experiences can come when you bake your bread with these five spoons.

Bread spoons by Niels Datema

To bake a nice loaf of bread you only need; flour, water, yeast, sugar and oil. Provides these five ingredients in the right amount with the spoons to make the perfect dough.

Silent Cargo by SX70 Europe for Anki Gneib

Stockholm designer Anki Gneib challenged artistic collective SX70 Europe to transport her enormous carved candlesticks from their place of manufacture in the woods of Sorvi-Pojat in Finland to her studio in Stockholm. They decided to wear suits for the occasion and photograph the journey.

Silent Cargo by SX70 Europe for Anki Gneib

Eirik V Johnsen and Kristian Pohl of Mentalpropell transported the Holy candle sticks as the first in a series of experiments called Overland Express, for which they intend to photograph large and unwieldy objects as they’re transported across different landscapes.

Gneib’s candle holders are each carved from a single piece of wood with a brass insert in the top to protect them from fire.

There’s also a smaller version called Holy Moly.

Here are some more details from Anki Gneib:

HOLY – by Anki Gneib

More than ever we need to surround ourselves with objects that inspire us, that create a mood and make us reflect. The monumental candlestick Holy encourages us to celebrate in our everyday lives.

Silent Cargo by SX70 Europe for Anki Gneib

Holy embraces the Scandinavian traditions of worship and the importance of illumination during our long winter nights with the magical warmth of the candlelight.

Silent Cargo by SX70 Europe for Anki Gneib

The shapes are drawn from classical models, each with its own expression, that complement and interact
with each other.

They are turned from a single piece of wood, with a natural finish or painted with Swedish traditional colors.

HOLY MOLY: height 1600, 1400 and 1100 mm.
Adapted for pillar candles with 150 and 80 mm in diameter.

HOLY: height 570, 490 and 390 mm.
Adapted for taper candles, tealights and pillar candles with 40 mm in diameter.

Silent Cargo by SX70 Europe for Anki Gneib

Each candle has a candleholder in brass to protect against fire and candlegrease.

Silent Cargo by SX70 Europe for Anki Gneib

HOLY has had a long journey. I was curious to see how HOLY would interact with the landscape and challenged the artist collective SX70 Europe to travel with HOLY from Sorvi-Pojat in Finland to Stockholm. They have done this in their own inimitable style, and I am proud to share their project SILENT CARGO with you.

SILENT CARGO – an Overland Express project by SX70 Europe

We wanted to explore how HOLY would interact with the slow, flat landscape in Ostrobothnia. The suited gentlemen from mentalpropell.com accepted the task of letting HOLY inspire them on their way from Sievi to Stockholm. Their investigation of HOLY has led us to see new aspects, both of the candlesticks and of the suited gentlemen. Transporting monumental candlesticks led us to new insights on the interaction between physical objects, people and landscapes.

Silent Cargo by SX70 Europe for Anki Gneib

Kristian Pohl and Eirik Vandvik Johnsen has explored Deadline Art projects since 1988. «Silent Cargo» is our 18th project, and the first one in the series «Overland Express». Later «Overland Express» projects will further investigate what happens when large, unwieldy, mysterious objects are transported over large distances.

Drawing vessels by Fumiaki Goto

Drawing vessels by Fumiaki Goto

If for some reason you’d like to draw pictures with the bottom of your cup, Japanese designer Fumiaki Goto has made these little vessels with the same combination of ceramic and graphite used to make pencil lead.

The process involves mixing clay, graphite and water then casting the material into the desired shape and firing it part-submerged in charcoal.

Drawing vessels by Fumiaki Goto

The top part is exposed to air during firing and turns white, while the bottom section is deprived of air and turns into pencil lead.

Drawing vessels by Fumiaki Goto

The graduated mix of graphite means users can keep their hands clean by holding the white top and use the pointed base to draw with. They come with little stands to stop them either spilling their contents everywhere or marking surfaces they shouldn’t.

Drawing vessels by Fumiaki Goto

Read more stories about ceramics here.

Drawing vessels by Fumiaki Goto

Here’s a little bit of text from Fumiaki Goto:

A pencil lead is a type of ceramic

It is made with mixing clay with graphite and baking it at high temperature. These vessels are made with the same recipe as a pencil lead. So they are not only ceramic vessels but also tools for drawing.

Drawing vessels by Fumiaki Goto

The special way of baking makes the white part normal ceramic and makes the black part a pencil lead. The gradation part has both of the features. The user can grab the white part and can use the pencil without making a hand dirty.

Bottle Humidifier by cloudandco for elevenplus

cloudandco-BottleHumidifer-0.jpg

The design team at Seoul-based design studio cloudandco, led by Founder/Creative Director Yeongkyu Yoo, is pleased to present their latest product design, the Bottle Humidifier. The designers note that the ubiquitous household object is often an inelegant or outright ugly device hiding in plain sight: “When the context of the humidifier as a product is considered—an object that sits on your desk or table for long periods of time—it is clear that design needs to be more considered.”

cloudandco-BottleHumidifer.jpg

cloudandco-BottleHumidifer-3.jpg

Their solution, the Bottle Humidifier, is “at once a functional product and art object.” The antibacterial plastic exterior shell comes in a matte white finish, while the thick glass reservoir at the bottom “allows the user to see the water level inside.” The device is powered via a retractable USB power cable.

new collection of 1% products will be shown
during the Milano Salone at nendo’s solo exhibition

100 is the perfect amount: they’re neither one-off “works of art” nor mass-produced products made in the millions. Whether its the skill of the artisans or new technologies, we want to make things that are only possible because there are 100 of them. Not more, not less. To give owners the chance to experience the joy of owing 1%.

Win-tea cup

This three-piece set consists of a cup, saucer and coffee filter holder whose form mimics that of the cup and saucer.

1% products by Nendo

With its stabilizing form when placed on top of the cup to pour coffee, and a volume of precisely one cup of coffee, the filter holder provides maximum function with minimal fuss.

1% products by Nendo

The saucer doubles as a tray for the filter holder after coffee has been brewed, and the entire set can be stacked for storage at half its height by placing the filter holder between the saucer and cup.

Top-tea set

A teapot and cup set.

1% products by Nendo

The thick wooden lid provides good insulation to keep the tea warm, and its pointed center condenses steam into liquid and directs it back into the teapot, rather dripping down the sides.

The lid becomes a top, and can be spun on the tabletop for amusement while drinking tea.

Block-vase

A set of small bud vases that can be stacked together like building blocks.

1% products by Nendo

The vase comes in four different sizes, carefully measured to fit together without disturbing the vase on the bottom.

1% products by Nendo

With careful stacking, the cases can accommodate a tall flower by running it through the vase on the top.

Stack-sake set

A sake set consisting of pitcher and cups, in the form of stacks of cups. The different sizes correspond to different types of drinks: one cup is a choko small glass, two cups stacked a slightly larger one, and four cups stacked a tumbler. The stack of five cups is actually a pitcher for sake.

1% products by Nendo

Because all of the cups have the same shape, they can be stacked together when not in use, and the one-cup choko doubles as a lid for the pitcher.

1% products by Nendo

When the pitcher is heated, for drinking warm sake, the cups can be warmed simultaneously, too.

Shrink-plate

A design that takes advantage of porcelain’s characteristics. When ceramics are fired, extreme differences in the thickness of the clay make the other side of the clay shrink away. Potters usually try to prevent this through a variety of techniques such as controlling the thickness of the clay and using curved rather than flat surfaces.

1% products by Nendo

The shrink-plate, on the other hand, makes what’s usually seen as a problem into a design feature.

1% products by Nendo
By increasing the thickness of the decorative elements and making the slab of the plate particularly flat and thin, the plate’s decoration stands out in relief.
