By Alexei Vella, graduate from Sheridan College’s illustration program. I’m a big fan of many of the illustrators from Sheridan College. Check out Alexei’s website for dozen’s of similar illustrations, he has a very consistent style.

Have a Bad Day

I recently picked up the winter issue, pretty good (only a couple articles in, so far so good).

I’d never heard of it before and apparently there’s a spring edition on the way (featuring work from Parra, Lizzi Bougatsos, and lots of others). A bit steep at $8, but each is hand numbered out of 500 and there’s lots to read. Plus, it’s local! So show some love and grab one. Check their website for locations to buy, and other general info about the mag. I got mine at Black Dog Video on Queen st. west.

Image Spark

Finally an amazing place to put all the stuff that we find online!

Developed by Teehan+Lax of Toronto, Image Spark allows you to open an account (free at the moment) where you can collect images, build mood boards, and even participate in a community of people doing the same thing. Best of all, they’ve created three different ways to upload your content: right (apple) click and select ‘image spark’ from the drop-down, screen selection, or the ol’ fashioned way (upload from file). Each method allows for the accompaniment of a description, tag list, and/or privacy setting. Definitely worth messing around with. However, I am looking forward to the addition of a few features (Namely the ability to archive files onto your own computer, bug fixes for the ‘apple clicking’ upload method (I’ve had problems), and more of an off-site use for the mood boards).

Halo Halo Pics

This weekend I also got to check out the Halo Halo show/fundraiser, curated by Jeff Garcia, photographed by elenithecamera. It was in the 401 Richmond building, as mentioned in a post I made a couple weeks back. Have a look see…

Halo Halo is the new project from Jeff Garcia and Jan Avendano, now set up in the lower level of Smash Gallery (pretty sure they’re still operating out of the 401 building as well). They offer a number of courses emphasizing DIY screen print styles and lots of collaboration. Apparently the name Halo Halo (pronounced hollow hollow) comes from a brightly coloured Filipino dessert (halo: meaning mix). Sounds about right to me. Browse the pics and check out the Halo Halo website for course info.

Sweet rainbow wall photo shoot.

Mr. Jeff Garcia and his giant mane.

Yes, even the floors were covered.

Thanks again Eleni for the awesome pictures! More to see on her flickr.
