I hope this post will bring you just as much relaxation as it did for me… they say 'water' can do that to a person…. Driven by their fascination with water, Dutch designers Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters created Waterloop (= Flow of Water) for the Audax Textielmuseum Tilburg in the Netherlands.
Maarten and Guus acknowledge that while textiles and water don’t seem to have too much in common, they are undoubtedly connected, as the textile industry is one of the biggest polluters of water in the world. For this reason, the designers didn’t just portray water in their collection, but developed production methods that spare as much water as possible.
Using digital printing – which produces little waste compared to conventional rotary printing – Kolk and Kusters employed a technique where the material is dyed directly with ink, which gives a different result on each type of yarn. They then tried to enlarge the surface of the print by adding very little water to the production process. The combination of material, weave and the process of adding water resulted in unique effects on the textiles.
Photographs of water became the prints in the Waterloop series. The duo went to Iceland to photograph glaciers, geothermal spas, geysers, rivers, waterfalls, fjords, oceans and lakes. The research has resulted in a series of textiles which includes a table cloth, grand foulard, tea towels, autonomous objects and a rug.
More about the Waterloop series you canfind here on their blog. I'm not sure whetehr you can buy any of the assecoiries… best is to send Maarten or Guus an email.

I'm in the mood for Joon&Jung today… i just love their work very much and believe not shared it with you before… Joon&Jung is a multi-discipline design studio based in Eindhoven, but the founders are originally from Korea. Combining their background and what they have learned and seen at de the design academy results in these delicate but solid looking designs.
My favorites are the 'natural speakers'; the architect curtain; pillow blanket and the living light…

A little while back Jurianne emailed me with some exciting news… new paper lanters designed by her were going to be available soon… of course being a big fan of all her paper designs I asked her whether I could have the scoop on showing them first to the world… so here we go after finalising the whole design and printing process Jurianne and I are happy to show you her amazing new Shine collection!
In her own words this is what Jurianne told me about her new Shine collection: “I actually came up with the idea last winter. I wanted to design a second series of lanterns, this is the first series, and the task I had set myself was this: they still had to be made of paper, still had to include a slight DIY factor and of course they still had to be eco friendly, but they………. had to be COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the first series! I realised I had set myself a tough assignment: to create an entirely new shape and totally different style whilst retaining my own ‘signature’… Now, at last, after endless sketching, printing, cutting, folding, looking and choosing, a set of 3 completely new lanterns is ready to shine! “ Jurianne.
The Shine – reversible paper lanterns shimmer in the twilight of every season, lighting up your garden in summer and give color to winter evenings. For those who like to dabble in DIY, Shine asks for a touch of creativity. Push the flaps inwards or outwards – whatever you like best – and simply choose the side you like most, because these lanterns are reversible! Once lit up, the inner side of the lantern becomes slightly transparent, giving it an enchanting look.
Each Shine set contains 3 lanterns. The pop-out cards are size 31 cm x 15 cm. The lanterns are large enough to fit over most drinking glasses and jam jars.
Easiest available online shop to buy them is at BijzonderMooi right here.

Just got an email from a collective of 4 female designers; Amba Molly, Carolina Wilcke, Eefiene Bolhuis and Eva Gevaert who call themselves 'De Intuïtiefabriek' (=The Intuition Factory) telling me about their latest project : “Excavations”.
“Excavations” is an unique collection of treasures, dug up from the corners of their imagination. As seen in archeological excavations these objects reveal a glimpse of a culture, her people and their customs. Varying from hand tools to vessels, from brushes to spoons; each unique and handmade. Put together in an amazingly beautiful and fine crafted cabinet.

It's always a pleasure seeing a new project over at Studio Aandacht … you know the design studio from the Netherlands who also helped design Bloesem's new logo 🙂 … lately Ben and his wife Tatjana have collaboratedwith (styling and photography) Christien Starkenburg and her amazing collection side-tables called the MUN collection.
The tables are made by local craftsmen in Fryslan, a northern province from the Netherlands, using solid wood, 100% natural finishes and mineral paint. And I have fallen in LOVE deeply… I wish I could afford buying the whole collection and use them everywhere in the house. The livingroom, kitchen, outside, kids playroom and my bedroom….yes they are multifunctional and fit in any decoration style!
I have asked Christien to share some images of her own home with us and she said yes, so this coming Monday she will be our guest for a Let's Get Personal Tour… you don't want to miss this her house is really special!

I love her brooches and am pleased to announce that her new website is online showing the rose brooches from wool and embroidery and the spriograph brooches from wood and thread.

D:: Dutch is …complaining about the rain, curtains open at night, ‘gezellig’ (which is a bit like ‘cozy’ in English but actually more than that ), only one cookie with your coffee (not me) and of course Dutch design, which besides vintage, I am really addicted to!
E:: Entrance, when entering my home you will notice… high ceilings, we live in an old house from the 1920’s with lots of original detailing, lots of space and lots of light streaming in through large windows.
S:: Style means … .being original and staying true to yourself. As a person but also in my work for BijzonderMOOI*. Trust your own instincts, and don’t just copy something someone else does.
I:: Interesting places in my city are… Usine: a very pretty and nice restaurant in the heart of Eindhoven (former factory bulbs factory Phillips) and the Dutch Design Week in October and last but certainly not least the recently openend: Piet Hein Eek City.
G:: Gardening is something …I don’t do a lot but I like relaxing in my garden with a wonderful ‘wall’ of rustling bamboo and a nice apple tree that delights us every fall with lots of apples.
N:: New in my home is … the print of 'aardvark manifesto 2010', which reminds me of the good things in life that I should not forget to do: “kill your tv, bake cake, drink tea, write letters, love all the people, keep it wonky, life your life, make stuff, be kind!”
H:: Hobby, I always make time for … cooking, watching movies and reading books
O:: Outfit, my favorite thing to wear is …my new black dress from Filippa K. I almost always wear black even though I very much like having colours in my interior. When I wear jewellery it is almost always my bracelet from ‘bjorke’.
M: Magazines I love to read are… : Elle wonen, vt-wonen, 101 woonideeen, EigenHuis& RED, JAN, LINDA, FLOW. I am a true magazine addict!
E:: Enjoy, I can not live without …the three men in my life (my husband and my 2 sons), white wine, magazines, chocolate and since recently: my iphone.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Sandra Jacobs runs according to me the best online shop selling Dutch Design. All the big names are part of the BijzonderMOOI collection… Ineke Hans, Richard Hutten and Ontwerpduo… to just name a view. I love the layout, the down-to-earth feel and the basic style of the shop. It makes shopping and navigating around very easy. It's even a small library where you can find detailed information about the designers.
For all these beautiful images we have to thank two very talented ladies, Sanne and Anke, a photographer and stylist who combined their forces online by opening a magazine-like-shop calledStyleCookie.
ps. Some more images from Sandra's sons rooms right here…

I have found a new love for my bed… and I hope mu husband likes it too 🙂
New bed covers and it was at this blog that I learnt about the incredible new collection by Scholten en Baijings for Danish label HAY.
I'm not sure yet where to buy it, their is an online shop from HAY but shipping isn't worldwide, so if anyone knows where to buy it please let me know. I think I will ask Holly from Huset if she is going to add it to her shop?
The new collection of home textiles consists of bed linens, tea towels and two series of carpets and they were presented at this year’s Maison & Object for the first time.
Wow can we just agree that the styling of the images and how this whole presentation has come together is just superb! It doesn't feel like products are being pushed onto you, it just gives a great sense of how the actual products could live in your home … love love love the Colors!!
