Georgia May Jagger Launches Jeans Collection in L.A.

imageThe 19-year-old daughter of model Jerry Hall and rock legend Mick Jagger recently launched her own line of jeans in partnership with Hudson Jeans, with whom she has modeled since 2009.

Though her celebrity fashion style in London leans toward ‘rocker chic’, Jagger chose a less edgy look in L.A., going for a fresh, California girl look.

She chose white skinny jeans from the collection, red shoes, and a peach colored strapless top to the event at a Neiman Marcus department store.

Hudson’s creative director Benjamin Taverniti worked with Jagger’s entree into the fashion industry. She made sketches and chose materials, washes, and other details for the line of jeans. She has had product launches so far in Paris, London, and now Los Angeles.

Recession Chic – Wide Leg Jeans For $75 Or Less!

imageWide-leg jeans are back! While skinny leg jeans are still here to stay, we’re excited about the change of silhouette! Wide leg jeans fit perfectly into the 70’s revival that we’re seeing for the up-coming spring and summer season.

They’re so cute with the new shoe trend of cork wedges and heels and look amazing with anything from a fitted tee to a 70’s inspired blouse (try an off-shoulder option for added sex-appeal!).

Take the wide-leg jean trend to the next level and opt for a high-waisted version! Make it even trendier by pairing it with a cropped to and stacked bangles! Plus, while designer jeans are great, you don’t have to promise your first born to get back into this trend! Take a look at our slideshow to see our favorite wide-leg jeans for $75 or less!

Singularities

3Sixteen details three of their uniquely talented clients in video

In celebration of the unique individuals that wear 3Sixteen, the denim-focused label recently created a series of videos showing off their customers’ talents and hardworking lifestyles. The trio of intriguing mini-docs, all profiling people in their homebase of NYC and cleverly titled “Singularities,” follows the dedicated coffee roasters at The Coffee Foundry, the skilled tattoo artists at Invisible Ink and the laid-back drummer Jahphet Landis. Directed by Kellen Dengler, the vignettes capture each of their subjects without ever mentioning 3Sixteen. This subtle brand-building project, much like their clothing, keeps it about the product not the name.

ched-3sixteen1.jpg

We had the pleasure of getting to know just how the clothing company works when we collaborated with Andrew Chen and the 3Sixteen team late last year on a series of ties made from locally-sourced wool in Manhattan’s Garment District. Like everything the brand produces, the attention to detail and commitment to craft really shines in each of the four styles, with a simple label hand-sewn on the back.

Dengler and the team are still searching for the fourth subject for the Singularities series. If you think your talents deserve some airtime, submit your work using one of their various online platforms for the project before 1 April 2011. To get your hands on one of our remaining collaborative ties, check them out in our online shop, where they sell for $80 each.

Zero Waste Denim

An exhibit of student work centered around sustainable design and denim
zerod1.jpg

Collaborating with eco-friendly fashion label Loomstate, students from the
Parsons The New School for Design recently created a curriculum based on zero-waste design with a focus on denim. The course, mentored by Loomstate‘s Scott Mackinlay and Rogan Gregory, serves to educate students about sourcing, dyeing and employing sustainable denim from responsible sources.

zerod2.jpg

Culminating with the selection of Andria Crescioni’s winning design, the young designer used the tools learned through the course to create an anorak that will be produced as part of Loomstate’s Fall 2011 collection.

To highlight the importance of socially and environmentally responsible design and to showcase the fruits of the collaboration, the works from the program will be on display at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center through 23 February 2010.

DIY – 90’s Calvin Klein Jeans Re-Vamped!

imageWe love our Calvin’s! Remember when Brooke Shields and Kate Moss donned the iconic and sexually explicit jeans that came to represent casual wear? Stylehive does! We went back in time to get inspired and show Hivers how to update their favorite, old school denim looks with this easy DIY project!

Pick up pair high waisted (they’re back in style!), ill-fitting jeans at your local thrift shop and re-work them to look like you walked right off one of Calvin€™s campaign shoots!

What you€™ll need

-Needle
– Pins
– Thread
– High waisted vintage jeans!

Step 1 – Turn your jeans inside out and try them on.

Step 2 – Depending on how baggy they are, pin the outside seam so that you taper them all the way to your ankles.
Tip – Be sure to leave enough room at the bottom to get them on and off.

Step 3 – Repeat on the other leg

Step 4 – On a sewing machine or by hand, take your jeans in by sewing alongside the pins.

Step 5 – When you’re finished, try them on right side out and make sure they fit correctly. You can then cut away the excess material.

All you need to complete your throwback? Mark Wahlberg! Enjoy!
