Triple the Awesome

From the creators of the nCycle comes the nThree – the latest challenge in efficient, affordable urban mobility. The single-seater trike’s shape takes influence from the toucan bird, applying the same structural qualities to achieve a lightweight, yet incredibly strong outer shell. This lightness, in combination with electric power delivered to the rear wheel, make it able to zip around town like a motorcycle but with the comfort of a car.

Its simple “Y” shaped body structure ensures a significant reduction in weight. Internally shaped and modeled like a toucan beak, the two side arms have a thin and lightweight section resistant to shock and impacts. In order to mimic this functionality, the designers ran a stress analysis test on the side arms to figure out the areas being stressed out most on the body, and to try to better distribute the stress based on the profile shape of the arm and the different areas it connects with the other parts of the nThree. Compared to similarly proportioned vehicles weighting about 300-500Kg, the nThree is expected to weight only around 100 Kg or less depending on the materials and hardware used. This will translate in a much higher power efficiency and lower energy consumption.

Age of the MotoCar

Following in the footsteps of companies like LIT Motors, the Volkswagen AERROW concept vehicle marries the benefits of both the car and motorcycle into a one-person urban commuter. Powered by a TDI-Hybridmotor, it’s more efficient and aerodynamic like a motorcycle. But, its completely enclosed cabin and extra room for cargo make it akin to a car. Electric gyroscopes keep the vehicle balanced at stop lights and even during accidents!

The Surf Car was designed for dudes and dudettes who love to hit the waves! The open-wheel E-SUV tackles both the sand and water with transforming “paddle” wheels that give it unmatched maneuverability on seaside terrain. Its roof doubles as a rack to store surfboards as well as a place to kick back, relax and catch some rays. While it’s designed for the beach, a street version would make an awesome looking SUV for the road!

Hyper Vehicle for the Senses

The Koenigsegg Prestera was designed with one purpose in mind… thrills! Inspired by extreme sports, the vehicle triggers the driver’s adrenaline with a dynamic carving and shifting weight balance system that creates stability in turns and exhilaration in the driver’s seat. Tucked in the cockpit, the driving experience is closer to that of riding a motorcycle or even a horse. This creates a deep connection between driver and machine where even the smallest movements are shared.

The Prestera enhances the private vehicle experience with intuition based operation that uses natural motions of mobility while giving the vehicle a mutual role of control. This allows the driver to experience deeper sensations without risk of accident.

Sustainable efficiency utilizes a renewable energy source that with photovoltaics continuously recharge compressed air for the pneumatic rotor engine while low friction vehicle dynamics increase efficiency. Frictionless air bearings, magnetic levitation wheels and a carbon fibre spaceframe chassis wrapped in a active ferromagnetic silicone skin support a radical and active vehicle architecture.

The vehicle architecture actively adapts to different situations, applying different technological principles for each mode. With this versatility, Prestera trials innovation that trickles down in common vehicles over time.

Smiling Opel

Steel Drake’s design for Opel (Buick in America) gives the brand a much-needed breath of fresh air. Called the Lancorte, it looks a bit like a cross between a CR-Z and an Eclipse… sporty but reserved for the older target customer. If its price point is as low as the brand’s other models, the coupe will be worth it to impress the neighbors for at least a moment. Favorite feature: those side dimples! Hit the jump to see what I mean…

100 Years of BMW

Designed for the year 2017, the BMW Rapp concept is a celebration of the brand’s century-long history, paying tribute to Beemer’s founding mechanical engineer, Karl Friedrich Rapp. The concept attempts to capture the most prominent design features across different models over the years such as the under-angled front grill, reverse doors, and high position tailpipes… rolling them into a single 2-door roadster with a hybrid aesthetic of retro and modern style.

Sound DNA

In the shift to electric vehicles, there’s one thing we’re really going to miss about our old combustion engines… the sound! Whether your tone of choice is a low grumble or high-pitched whir, the voice of the vehicle has forever been a deciding factor for new car owners. While it doesn’t offer a solution to maintaining the sound experience, the Spectra concept vehicle’s unique form was inspired by the Doppler effect created by today’s F1 cars.

From the fairings to the fenders, the shape represents the observable sound frequencies in the F1’s spectrum, paying homage to the soon-to-be-extinct combustion engine.
