3 Celeb Hair Secrets We’re Sharing With You!

Celebs always seem to have perfect hair. Whether it’s a precise updo, or a tousled bed head style, celeb always step out looking like a million bucks. But, in fact, their hair ‘dos cost nothing close! With a few easy and affordable tricks of the trade, celebs can rest assured that they’ll always step out looking perfectly coiffed and polished. So just what are these tricks of the trade anyway? We’ve gathered three super simple and quick celeb hair secrets that anyone can try and succeed at, making sure that we all get to step out looking like a million bucks … for a fraction of the price!

Hair Extensions – Not all of us are born with a head of thick, lush hair that can grow to incredible lengths, but all of us can fake it! Go ahead and splurge on high quality hair extensions and either clip them in yourself, or go the next step and get them professionally done. It’s better to spend a little more now than to spend multiple times on mediocre extensions because high-quality extensions look and feel more real, last longer and can be re-used when taken care of properly.

Root Perm – Not ready to have hair that isn’t yours just yet? Try a simple root perm to add more volume to your hair. A root perm adds lift to the base of hairs to give an appearance of thicker, more luxurious locks. A root perm is only applied to a small section of hair near the crown so there’s minimal damage, and they last from two to four months.

Wispy Side-Swept Bangs – Wispy bangs brushed nonchalantly to the side are always a sensual look. Make sure the fringe is not too heavy as that can weigh down a look, and opt for an eye-grazing length as opposed to a blunt, short style for added sex appeal. Wispy, side-swept bangs work whether the hair is down or in a sophisticated up-do!

Accessorized! Which Celeb Got It Right?

imageWhen it comes to completing a look, nothing can make or break a pretty ensemble more than the accessories. Whether it’s an eye-catching statement piece, or a few demure choices, accessories are what takes the outfit from good to glamorous and what better place for our favorite celebs to show off their accessorizing skills than on the red carpet?

Songbird, Rihanna, gave her sexy silhouette a fun twist with an oversized hair accessory, a sleek gold bangle and delicate chain and pendant, that balanced out her bold red look. Model and actress, Angie Harmon, kept her look simple and elegant with a ruffled skirt and tube top and only matching nude heels and a stylishly knotted belt to help bring her look together and to show off her slim waist. Songstress, Ashlee Simpson, wowed in a slinky sequined dress and a sexy and sassy new ‘do, but it was her shoulder-grazing drop earrings that really turned heads on the red carpet.

All the ladies look gorgeous and found ways to perfectly compliment their outfits, but who do you think accessorized the best? Let us know by taking the poll below!

Beauty Pick Me Up – Sleek And Easy Up-Do’s

imageWhen it comes to looking polished and put together, the finishing touches and accessories are just as important as the outfit itself. One of the most important finishing touches to any ensemble is the hair style. While it would be wonderful to be able to get a pricey blow-out every week, or have the time to perfect an elaborate hairstyle every morning, it’s just not practical. So we’ve decided on three easy-to-do up-dos that are versatile and will save you time in the morning, but have you stepping out looking perfectly coiffed!

Side Swept Ponytail – An easy ‘do that’s flattering on all face shapes! Simply rub a few drops of sleeking serum into slightly damp hair, sweep hair to one side and gather loosely at the nape of the neck. Secure with an elastic band and a few pins in the back to keep hair in place (leave the front tousled for an effortless appeal). This look also words well as a loose braid!

Twisted Bun – This style is classy and clean! Add a pumps of a pliable hair mold to damp hair and grasp hair into a ‘ponytail’ at the nape of the neck. Gently twist hair until it naturally starts to turn in a circle. Loop hair around itself tightly and secure with an elastic band (two if you have longer hair!). Hide the ends by tucking them under and use a few bobby pins to secure. This look is also fun to adorn with silk flowers or a shiny headband!

Sleek High-Ponytail – A classic coif that gives sass to any ensemble. Simple use a few drops of sleeking serum and brush hair so that it is pulled back with no part. Gather hair tightly to at least the center of the head if not higher and secure with an elastic band, being sure that the front and back are smooth. Grab a section of hair (about to finger widths) and wrap it around the elastic to hide it, tucking and pinning the ends underneath to hide it. Add a few more drops of sleeking serum to smooth out flyaways!

Audrey Tautou looked fun and girly with her loose curls and fun hair bow, but was not a favorite amongst Hivers. Carey Mulligan’s sweet and simple do made for strong competition, but it was Keira Knightly’s wispy bangs and smoky eyes that got the win with 53% of the votes.

3 Celeb Hairstyles That We Love!

imageStylehive Hair Series Powered by Pantene

We all have our favorite celebrities and celebrity styles that we love to try and emulate, but while re-making an entire ensemble may prove to be quite difficult at times (afterall, we love their looks, but we’d love to have the same money to spend on it more!), copying a flattering hairstyle is much easier. We’ve gathered three big-name stars that have recently taken drastic style changes to their own coifs and we have to say … we love it! So from spunky short cuts to long, luxurious waves and this season’s ‘it’ hair color, here are three celeb styles that we want to try for ourselves!

Textured Straight Bob – The voluptuous Scarlett Johansson recently debuted her new, shorter bob. This is the perfect look for someone trying to shed a girl-next-door image for something a little more sensual, but youthful. To add texture, like Scarlet, rub in a few drops of texturizing cream or serum to damp hair, part hair slightly off center and let air dry. Finish with a few spritzes of light hold spray and you’ve got yourself an A-list look!

Deep Chocolate Waves – A darker hue, like Jessica Biels’ color, is always in during cooler months. Darker shades give an air of sensual mystery and are automatically reflect more light, making hair look shinier and glossier. Opt for a shade or two darker than what you’d ultimately like when getting hair colored. To achieve Jessica’s look, apply a few drops of sleeking serum to damp hair. Blow dry hair. Once dry, divide hair into wide sections and curl the bottom portion with a medium sized barrel. Separate gently to style and finish off with a curl-enhancing hair spray.

Short Sexy Pixie Cut – This style is flattering and versatile, able to range from sweet to sassy with just a few shakes of the wrist, but chopping off your locks takes courage and is for those that are truly looking for a hair make-over! Ashlee Simpson took the brave step and has never looked better! Modernize your pixie cut like Ashlee did by keeping bangs longer and wispier for sex appeal. Once cut, this hair style is easy to upkeep with just a few drops of texturizing cream applied to hair while damp. Style and blow-dry as usual.

Giuliana Rancic of E! News Shows Us How To Dress For Success

imageYou’ve got to guess that any girl who can hold her own on camera next to Ryan Seacrest is … well, she’s not just any girl. And E! News anchor, Giuliana Rancic, is far more of a powerhouse than anyone might have initially realized. The Italian bombshell is touring to promote her second book, ‘I Do, Now What’, tackling serious personal issues in the third season of her Style Network reality show Giuliana & Bill, and still makes time to appear for as the Trop50 spokeswoman for women-in-the-workplace non-profit Dress for Success.

Special contributor Lena Katz, editor of travel pop site Zingi caught up with Giuliana after a recent fundraiser, and got some excellent tips on how to stay stylish and keep your confidence levels up even when you’re strapped for time and cash.

What are three inexpensive (under $20) accessories that can take a black pants suit from ‘blah’ to sophisticated?

1. Skinny Belts: Metallics are very in right now in terms of trends, so I would suggest picking up a silver skinny belt. Silver is classy and absolutely appropriate for an interview. One tip: When you sit down for your interview, unbutton your suit jacket to show off your belt. It will add the perfect flare to your outfit while keeping it classy.

2. Double strand Necklaces: While it is important to make sure your personality shines through in an interview, you don’t want to come across as too loud. You can get a double strand of faux pearls or a simple metal double strand fairly inexpensively that will add a little pizazz to your suit, without being too over-the-top. Simple sophistication is the way to go at an interview.

3. Satchel Brief: One of the most important parts of any job interview is preparation! To really look polished, yet prepared, everything you need for your interview – resume, portfolio, cards, pens and paper – should be neatly stashed in a satchel brief. There are so many different cute styles and varieties, too! You can really have fun with this and select a bag that suits you and your personality. I guarantee you will get a ton of compliments on this accessory!

What’s a trend this season that can be incorporated into professional dress and look good?

Kitten heels, a la ‘Mad Men’, are one of the biggest trends for Spring/Summer 2011. Luckily for us ladies, they look fantastic with slacks or skirts! Plus, the lower heel is definitely appropriate for any professional environment, not to mention they are much more comfortable than the platforms heels I€™m usually wearing! I can get away with sky-high shoes on the red carpet, but in many professions, wearing too high of a heel might not go over so well.

For girls without money to spend on all the latest trends, what’s a wardrobe essential that wouldn’t necessarily be obvious, but that has worked magic for you over the years?

I absolutely love big, chunky bracelets. I have a large collection of bangles that are all very inexpensive. When I€™m in a hurry in the morning, but need to add a little punch to my look, I throw on a stack of bangles and instantly my outfit goes from an 8 to a 10!

Please give us a trick you use to boost confidence for an important job interview.

Confidence is every woman’s most important accessory. Yes, wardrobe is important, but no article of clothing is as important as exuding confidence. Applying for jobs is one of the most stressful things a person goes through and it’s easy to get in a rut and lose confidence. When I’m feeling stressed out or like I’m losing some confidence, I always find that staying active helps. Walking is an easy and affordable way to exercise, and I know from experience that it helps! It’s also important to be mindful about what you eat. I’m a big advocate of healthful eating and I am always reading nutrition labels to make sure that what I’m putting into my body is good.

Please tell us what Dress for Success is, and how you are involved, and why this charity is important.

Dress for Success is a fantastic organization that focuses on helping disadvantaged women become economically independent by providing them with professional attire, a network of support and career development tools. I’m so excited to be working with them through a partnership with Tropicana Trop50. We’re really empowering women to help each other look and feel good. In fact, right now, if you visit Tropicana’s Facebook page, share a free online gift with your girlfriends using a Facebook app and Trop50 will make a $5 donation to Dress for Success (up to $25K).
I also just spoke on panel in NYC with Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide, on tips for achieving career success. This is a topic that is hugely important to me, and, as women, I think it’s important that we support and empower each other in the workplace. You can check out some of the tips shared during the seminar – including ways you can get involved to help Dress for Success – right here!

For those of us who aren’t quite broke enough to qualify for Dress for Success, how would you suggest using the resources we have to re-invent our wardrobes (i.e. clothing swap with friends, renting dresses for special occasions, etc.)?

Yes, yes and yes! I recommend investing in a few key pieces and then adding inexpensive accessories to change things up each season. I love clothing swaps – although sometimes it’s hard for me to find things to part with – and definitely agree with borrowing dresses on special occasions, whether it’s from a friend or dress rental. Chances are your girlfriends are dying to swap for something of yours too!

The Best Red Carpet Hairstyles

imageStylehive Hair Series Powered by Pantene

While many celebs are choosing to boldly chop their locks, this week on the European Red Carpets, it was all about classic Hollywood glamour with looks that were long and luxurious.

It wasn’t the swoon-worthy international destinations (hello UK, Spain and Italy!), but rather their sleek and sexy ‘do’s that put Julianne Moore, Selita Ebanks and Kristin Davis on the map this week!

The great thing about these three show stopping styles? As glam as they look, they’re simple to achieve! Not quite a hair whizz? Alternatively, with more and more affordable ‘Blow Dry and Go’ Salons (blow outs for around $35.00!) popping up everywhere, the follicle-y challenged can be in and out in less than 40 minutes, looking like a Hollywood star!

Do It Yourself –

Kristen’s Bold Blow-Out – For this much volume, you’ll definitely need a round brush and blow-dryer to achieve the desired look. While damp, rub a small amount of volumizing serum or mousse into hair. Blow dry sections of hair, starting from the under layer and using clips to keep other sections away. Using a round brush to separate and give volume, brush outwards slowly while following with the blow dryer simultaneously. Curl the ends with a medium sized barrel. Gently style hair into desired position and finish with a few spritzes of a light hold hairspray.

Julianne’s Sleek & Simple Waves – While hair is still damp, rub in a few drops of sleeking serum and comb hair into 2 sections with the part slightly off center. Lightly blow dry and gather hair into 2-inch sections. Curl each section around a medium barrel, starting from the lower half of the hair. Do not brush though. A few spritzes of flexible hold spray and you’re out the door!

Selita’s Pretty Pullback – This is actually a look that works best when hair isn’t squeaky clean. Blow dry hair upside down, brushing through to create volume. Flip hair back and gather the top half, being sure to pull back all hair so that there’s no part, but the look isn’t too tight either. Secure with an elastic band and finish with a few spritzes of volumizing spray!

Celebs Keep It Short And Sweet

imageLong hair is versatile and fun because there are so many styles that you can try, but it takes a truly confident beauty to dare to chop her locks off. Short styles can have just as much range as long hair styles with looks from sexy and sassy, to sweet and girly.

Some of our favorite movie stars from around the globe are rocking the short, pixie cut trend and we love it on all of them? But who wears their short ‘do the best?

Brit bombshell, Keira Knightly, keeps her look sultry with long wisps of side swept bangs and a smoky eye. French beauty, Audrey Tautou, keeps her short locks fun and feminine with loose shining curls and a large, but subtle floral hair accessory. Her clean face and bold lips add to the French appeal. Newcomer, Carey Mulligan, keeps her pixie cut cute with a tousled girl-next-door vibe and a simple elastic headband. Precise eyeliner and lashes paired with pink lips and rosy cheeks further enhance the youthful and sweet vibe.

So with all these sweet and sassy short hair styles, which celeb gets your vote? Let us know by taking the poll below!

Kate Moss Topshop: The Final Collection Launches Today

imageKate Moss launched her final mainline collection for Topshop. Here she is at the launch party in Oxford Circus last night sporting her newly self-cut bangs. I love her casual pieces much more so than her dressy evening wear as because the casual pieces seem to embody more of her daily style. Also, I can’t see myself paying more than $300 for a Topshop item. If it comes down to a $300 dress, I’d rather go with DVF or Alice + Olivia. Overall, Kate’s had a great run with her Topshop line and her sense of style has always been at the top of my list.

Get The Winning Look From Our ‘Pumpkin Patch’ Poll!

imageThe anticipation of Halloween night is almost as fun Halloween itself and these celeb moms took their miniatures to the pumpkin patch early! For such a fun and casual family trip, all the moms showed up in their most stylishly laid-back ensembles and we asked you to tell us who had the best look!

Christina Aguilera was cute in her plaid shirt, but couldn’t make the cut with only 10% of the votes. The queen of casually cute, Jessica Alba, proved to be stiff competition with a loose tank over dark grey jeans and black leather boots and 40% of your votes.

But it was gorgeous Halle Berry that won with 50% of the votes. Sure, she could make a potato sack look good, but Halle’s choice of a flattering, but basic white tee over black denim tucked into black flat boots reminds us that less really is more. A unique but comfy open hoodie cape added layers to the ensemble in a festive way, but is a piece that can be worn any day.
