The Ultimate Roadtrip-Mobile

The EV X-O concept is a family-focused vehicle inspired by the group road trips we all experienced as kids. The exoskeleton of the car offers a near-seamless panoramic view for passengers so they can fully take in the surroundings. The cockpit is even divided into two sections to keep bickering kids apart!

The center of this 100% electric vehicle has two hulls that not only offer the rigidity and support needed for safety, but also accommodate the energy cells that power the vehicle. While the front wheels are propelling the vehicle, the rear wheels are recharging the cells through friction. Even though a direct 1-to-1 discharge to recharge is next to impossible, the Recharge is approximately 15%, giving more efficiency to the overall distance traveled.
Lightweight construction materials like aluminum, titanium, magnesium, carbon fiber, and lexan, are an essential in creating a lighter vehicle.  The design eliminates as much of excess material as possible, leaving only a cockpit and exoskeleton of a chassis behind. Furthermore, a lighter full-electric engine provides additional weight savings over a conventional petrol engine.

A light and airy exoskeletal aesthetic offers a different approach to the passenger experience. It has an artistic influence based on minimalism that is expressed even down to the seams of the exterior. Though you may not be able to see the overall body lines of the car, they are still there. This airiness also flows into the wheels, where there is plenty of negative space. The design was inspired by spoked bicycle wheels where lightness is key.

Another feature of the vehicle is its drive train, where a linear motor system is utilized. The front wheels have a series of linear motors that force discs on the wheel forward or backwards depending on the magnetic pull of the motors.

Introducing, the disposable car!

The “carDboard” concept vehicle is a militantly minimal coupe with no door, no dashboard, no hard roof, & it only comes in one color (so you’d better like brown!). The chassis & body are composed of entirely of recycled cardboard & plastic, making it extremely lightweight & efficient with its small tri-hybrid gas/compressed-air/electric engine. Its projected top speed would reach somewhere around 70MPH, but it’s better suited for just a quick zip around town. Just try to avoid rain & puddles!

Electric Sport Utility

The Exploder II has a four wheel drive system where each wheel uses the Michelin Active Wheel technology and an individual electric motor that controls the vehicle direction linked to the steering wheel by a wireless system. The Michelin Active wheels toe-in to allow the vehicle to rotate about a pivot point that is located at the center of the vehicle. This in combination with its lightweight chassis make it an unstoppable ESUV.

The Exploder II also focuses its material composition on ease of production, recyclability, and lightweight efficiency.  The main body is made of stretched lightweight tensile fabric with integrated thin film solar panels on a tubular structure made of thermoplastic composite materials that collect supplemental energy from the sun. These materials are tougher, lighter, and stiffer, which allow it to easily reach high-speeds with small energy consumption and perform better in the event of a collision.

Bubble Trike

This is totally one of those concepts that hurts your heart because it doesn’t exist yet! Bemoove is a futuristic urban vehicle with a wild aesthetic that was dictated not by a desire for attention, but by experimenting with material & powertrain options ideal for the city. The ultra-lightweight frame of the trike’s base is carbon fiber, but the real innovation is the inflatable cab that offers safety, shock absorption, & total panoramic views to passengers. So, how does it move? Hit the jump for more! —>

The main steering device is the spherical rubber-Kevlar back wheel, moved by electric engines in any XY-plane direction. Controlled torque is applied to the support-case of this wheel to make the two main frame arms free to swing and accommodate curves and uneven ground. Traction is provided by four rubber-Kevlar tape-shaped tires which rotate independently forward or backward on their guides thanks to four electric motors positioned in the main frame, so as to maximize traction as well as turning radius.

Aqua Benz

The Mercedes Benz Dolphin takes design cues from the naturally streamlined shape of the aquatic animal, applying lightweight material to its aerodynamic form for maximum efficiency. Powered by a dual-stators maglev DC machine, the lighter and cleaner engine was a natural choice to compliment its focus on environmental friendliness and efficiency. It’s a Flipper-inspired family car of the future!

Citroën Clean Tech

The Citroën DS BiRotor is a hybrid concept that merges aerodynamic coupe styling with 4-door hatchback versatility to form the sportiest Citroën compact yet. It uses the latest in internal combustion and electric power for optimal fuel efficiency and immediate implementation to the current infrastructure. All that squeezed into a superlight carbon and aluminum modular chassis for optimal weight, rigidity and safety.

As for the tires, the Michelin Variable Response is designed to provide both perfect grip and fuel economy. The VR consists primarily of two carbon fiber covers pressed against each other holding the tire in place. The tire is made from a soft colored rubber and black vulcanized harder rubber surrounding it. The wheel features a servo motor that varies the width of the tire depending on weather conditions and driving demands. It works by expanding the rubber and shifting the gaps to direct water more efficiently. When the ground is dry, the tire closes to become flatter, bigger and harder, improving fuel economy .It will also respond to sudden and violent maneuvers in order to increase stability. The carbon covers keep weight low and allow the wheel to have a bigger diameter to cover larger distance with each rotation.

The power train is one-of-a-kind. It features a 600cc Wankel engine that produces 140hp mounted over the rear axle and connected to the rear wheels via CVT transmission. It also features two 30hp electric in-wheel motors at the front to improve performance and fuel economy. These are powered by a bank of supercapacitors that are recharged constantly by the engine. The onboard computer manages the power delivery according to the driver’s demands, being able to function as a fully electric vehicle without the need of batteries or recharging. The typical disadvantage of the Wankel engine, such as lower pressure and oil consumption are rectified by the use of a turbocharger, organic biodegradable oil and hydrogen-on-demand system. The latter uses a water tank and stainless steel plates to generate hydrogen gas and injects it into the engine to improve combustion and lower emissions.

Transforming Moto Car

The Paraton-e concept merges motorcycle maneuverability with compact car practicality into a transformable urban commuter for the sensible thrill-seeker. The driver can choose between a configuration that leans and negotiates traffic like a motorcycle with a leaner profile, or a broader stance to deliver a stable and assisted driving experience with a reclined seating position suitable for higher speeds. Slim as a sidewalk, the variable width of the vehicle also makes parking a cinch.

All wheels are attached to smart connection points with the ability to transform the track of the vehicle and camber of the individual wheels. In addition, Paraton-e’s tires are lined with electrically responsive material with the ability to alter their profile, ensuring the vehicle can lean and be controlled smoothly through turns.
