Truly Handy Cam

Apart from the complex technical know-how required to use a camera, you’re also supposed to be physically stable and nimble with your hands. Even as someone with full use of my own, I can barely manage all that! With its flexible viewfinder screen, the ergonomically designed Inclusive Digital Camera makes it easier (especially for those with dexterity setbacks) to shoot from a more comfortable, wrist-supported waist height. Perfect for shooting motion or long durations for anybody from the eldery to beginners.

The Inclusive Digital Camera lens can rotate at 90 degrees, from landscape to portrait mode, to ease wrist and finger movement. Integrating four high-powered flashes to offer an exceptional 360-degree flash, the compact camera automatically rotates the screen interface to switch between landscape and portrait modes. Mounting the screen up to 90 degrees to allow wider shooting angles, the Inclusive Digital Camera is suitable for both right and left handed users, as it locates the capture and zoom buttons on either side to let the user operate camera with one hand in a natural resting position.

Powered by a lithium ion battery, the new digital camera makes use of induction charging to charge the battery. Resting elegantly in a sleek docking station, the ergonomic camera offers Bluetooth connectivity to move photographs to your computer wirelessly with the built-in memory.

Retro Analogue Photography In Digital Era

When they were asked to rethink the camera by BBC Future, the designers at Conran and Partners were clear that they wanted to set about reimagining every aspect, from the form factor to the technology inside. The result is this new-age hybrid that has a gaping hole replacing the camera lens and no digital viewfinder to check out the images clicked. In a very spunky way, the concept transports us back to that era when rushing to the darkroom with the camera roll used to be so much of fun. The anticipation of crisp versus blurry shots, and the excitement of sifting through the photographs as a collection, is such a refreshing change.

Designer Jared Mankelow explains, “What we’ve done is punch a big aperture through the camera’s centre, to connect the photographer with what’s in front of them.”

One of the reasons behind omitting the screen is that since everybody has a smartphone, tablet or PC nowadays (all featuring a very high-resolution screen), it made no sense having a poor-quality substitute sapping battery life from the camera.

  • The Conran camera transmits images via Bluetooth with the touch of a button – or you can recapture the delight of a film camera by not looking.
  • From a control perspective, the Conran camera combines instant-on, automatic shooting with a full set of manual controls.
  • Instead of being buried in fiddly, screen-based menus, all of the controls are physical: grooves, knurls and ridges allow the user to change settings without looking.
  • Image quality was another important focus. The camera sensors surround the central aperture in an array, allowing the camera to resolve images with incredible clarity – and a ring flash allows even lighting of close up subjects.

Kitsch Dress Your Camera

The Spectrum Camera Concept is high on the novelty quotient and very low on functionality. However if we keep our minds open, I see us using the idea of a customizable wrap-around flexible display in more innovative ways. Just the other day we heard of an Apple patent that employed a similar idea, where the display went wrap-around the phone. This can turn into something big, what do you think?

Forever A Smart Camera

Using the design based on a new technology for the next generation of Samsung digital imaging line, the SC1 (Smart Camera 1) focuses on providing the quality of mirror-less cameras, while using the smart technology of smartphones via detachable dual display technology. Users can expect great results thanks to the photography experience through the use of the dual display.

  • Through Bluetooth connection with a smartphone, the SC1 is fun to use.
  • The applications available give the professionals an extra benefit in photography.
  • The modernized control dials with aluminum body casing presents a very high tech look.
  • Use of simple yet effective rubber grips on the front and backside of the camera provide a steady grip without interfering with the overall trendy aesthetics.
  • The dual screen can be used to access more detailed menus quickly and easily. The left display can be used as a quick access area, while the main display can be used to purely display the beautiful images that the camera can capture.
  • When the display is detached, it can be used for various purposes like map navigation, remote control, and photo review/display.
  • The single ability to detach the secondary display opens up a whole new possibility of features that can be used for providing users with more options to capture beautiful photographs.

LECIA Only Gets Better

Inspired by the monocle and the color wheel, this LEICA X3 concept looks at picking the best features found on smartphones and marrying them with the ones found on a digital camera. So basically this is a lovechild that is the size of a lens and transfers the pictures instantly to your smartphone, tablet or Mac via Bluetooth. The camera is automatically turned on when the lens is flipped out and a simple user interface allows you take pictures in a jiffy.

Specs include both manual and automatic control for aperture, shutter speed and ISO. I like the direction of this concept; it aims at tapping into the future of photography and brings a totally new dimension to the modern habit of sharing pictures with the world.

Levitating Mouse

Although currently in its testing stage and researching the market, I’d love to jump the gun and get my hands on the BAT – Levitating Wireless Computer Mouse. The story behind its development is the obvious culprit – Carpal tunnel syndrome; but I’d much rather get it for its awesomeness. The concept consists of a base (mouse pad) and floating mouse with magnet ring. I think it looks very cool and will definitely be a hit with my ilk.
