There’s a lot to be said about taking a perfectly simple aesthetic gesture and turning it into a guide for the public. In this case it’s a couple of laser beams stopping humans or vehicles from crossing paths at the same time. This design by HOJOON Lim goes by the name Guardian and will bring a perfect stop to a crash that could have been near you.

The Volkswagen Expand is a super-versatile concept vehicle that offers not 1 but 2 functional expansions that make it the perfect urban commuter. The first is an extendable cabin that accommodates 1 or 2 additional passengers or extra cargo. The second is the car’s removable front wheels which double as personal transportation using a sophisticated gyroscopic sensor system similar to a Segway. It’s a limitless, all-in-one solution for getting around the urban jungle!

The Smart City Cycle takes into consideration that you may have to carry some luggage with you when you head out. It could be as simple as groceries or toys for your children. The rear wheel of the cycle hosts extendable compartments that can hold your goodies for you. If required, then the storage extension can be completely removed as well. Either ways, it’s a modular cycle that suits your daily commuting needs.

The Smart City Cycle is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

The super compact CliQ concept is a futuristic look into the Land Rover brand’s inevitable need to design smaller EVs if it wants to hang in for the long haul. Designed with modularity in mind, the CliQ’s primary feature is a “remixable” exterior of body slices (yes, slices) that make it possible for drivers to easily change up the aesthetic of the vehicle on a whim. The aim was to create a vehicle that’s not only clean running, but has a long and evolving lifespan to further reduce it’s overall carbon footprint.

Chances are you’ve never seen a rickshaw like this! Normally, they are pulled by a human runner or a seated cyclist and are most common in large metropolitan areas from London to Beijing. This design differs in that the driver is located behind the passengers, giving them a better view for sightseeing. It also features a pedi-assist system that only requires the driver to start the motion with a few pedals forward to kick the electric engine into action. Easier on the driver and still environmental friendly!
