Morning moves

A slice of Her Morning Elegance to start the day.

‘Maybe Sparrow’

Another fine animated video for Neko Case‘s siren song, ‘Maybe Sparrow‘ off her 2006 LP Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. Animation by Julie and Paul Morstad.

Case is currently on tour with her new album Middle Cyclone. Her voice and lyrics are as brazen as the cover image!

El Perro del Mar

I am also a fan of El Perro del Mar and this elegant animated video for ‘God Knows (You Gotta Give to Get).’ Directed by Asa Arnehed, animation by Asa Arnehed, Olle Söderström and Malin Rosenqvist.

EPDM is one among several bands and musicians included in a tribute piece to Scandinavian Soundscapes featured in the second issue of the magazine.

Ladyhawke

A friend turned me on to the fiesty young New Zealand musician Ladyhawke.

Love her dizzy Pat Benatar sound and the stylized illustrations and paintings artist Sarah Larnach did for the new ‘My Delirium‘ video.

If you like what you hear & see, check out Ladyhawke’s other stellar videos/songs, Back of the Van and Paris is Burning. The new album is available here and now.

Blues

‘…Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success

…Don’t wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Don’t wanna be a bum
You better chew gum…’

British actor Ben Whishaw riffs on Bob’s Homesick Subterranean Blues. Click here to read the song lyrics in full.

Dylan’s latest

Beautiful Bob continues to inspire with his indefatigable musical genius. I am keen to pick up his latest album, Together Through Life, which boasts a vintage style, love-in-the-backseat cover. To listen to sample tracks from this album, visit Bob’s site.

If you are a Dylan fan and haven’t read Chronicles: Volume 1 yet, I highly recommend it. An intimate, funny, poetic glimpse into the genesis of a true artist, this first installment of what is promised to be a 3-part autobiography, is a little slice of heaven.

And then there’s his excellent, Theme Time Radio program.

No wonder I heart Bob – he just keeps on pouring out the good stuff.

End of the Road

Watch for a spread on summer’s finest outdoor music festivals as selected by musician Mark Hamilton in the Summer issue of the magazine.

Included in his list is the wonderful End of the Road Festival.  Held in the enchanting Lormer Tree Gardens in Dorset, England, this is a gem of a festival, and a fine way to end the summer (September 11, 12, 13th).

I attended 2 years ago and have fond memories of sleeping under the stars, wandering among wild peacocks, drinking hot cider and of course, discovering new music. The EOTR festival is where I first heard the whimsical big band sound of  Woodpigeon (Mark’s band) and the pop-operatic melodies of Jens Leckman.

This year’s headlining bands include: Explosions In The Sky, Fleet Foxes, Neko Case and Steve Earle.

Grizzly Bear + The Red Balloon

Apparently Albert Lamorisses ‘La Ballon Rouge‘ is in the air. I came across this unofficial video of “Two Weeks,‘ a song off of Grizzly Bear‘s new album Veckatimest, on Sasha Frere-Jones‘ New Yorker music blog.

Frere-Jones calls it a “big fat ice-cream cone of a song” and I have to agree. Goes down smooth with floating balloons.

colour tv

Wow! I don’t have a television but this commercial is making me think twice.. Love the song (‘Heartbeats‘ performed by Jose Gonzalez) and the colorful bouncy balls. Thanks to Kelsey for bringing it to my attention.
