Subports: A text message retail experiment
Posted in: UncategorizedSubports is a new design retail experiment, where customers use text messages to purchase items. This twist frees the shop from a format that requres four walls and a roof, allowing Subports to disperse their wares throughout the city, in fake street bazaars or hidden within book safes.
Charged by experimentation and a dash of contemporary art world mystique, we bring you Subports, a curious way to buy and sell. Our aim is to significantly lower the barrier of entry to the digital market place by giving local merchants, new-to-the-scene designers and upstart boutiques a competitive advantage in promotion, marketing and selling. Subports allows you to activate a retail presence anywhere — in print, on the web, on the street — in literally minutes. We use the technology that everyone already has in their pockets to subvert the existing channels of commerce, and we let you do it easily, quickly and without limits. We provide a simple, open-ended format that is ready to play with entrepreneurs and artists. Re-imagine the landscape of the buyer/seller experience by being anywhere you want to be.
If you can’t catch them somewhere in New York City, visit Stackist, their new online retail project. They’ve visually stacked up their favorite design objects from 2009, each one encoded with a unique number for purchase by SMS. The stack will topple and start afresh come 2010.
