The good people at the School of Visual Arts were kind enough to pass along this interview with the co-chair of their masters design program and general man about town Steven Heller about the exhibition he helped curate with designers Anita Kunz, Woody Pirtle, and the SVA’s gallery director, Francis Di Tommaso. Entitled Where Is My Vote? Posters for the Green Movement in Iran, the show gathers 150 posters created during the 2009 protests in Iran, following the presidential election there. Originally spawned from a message by an anonymous Iranian photographer who urged designers to create pieces in order to help raise awareness for the protesters’ cause, launched was a mass movement of poster-making and commissioning by the site SocialDesignZine. The show at the SVA is the first time the posters have been exhibited in one place and include work by designers like Milton Glaser, James Victore and Massimo Vignelli. The show runs at the SVA’s Visual Art Gallery at 601 W. 26th St. from now until September 25th, with a reception tomorrow from 6 to 8pm.
