Sony’s new camera dock takes automation to a whole ‘nother level

Here’s a camera design feature we never saw coming: Sony has just unveiled their Party-shot camera dock, which enables attached cameras to shoot without an operator. Set the thing up on a tripod and it turns into a sort of photographic motion detector:

The Party-shot camera accessory uses the camera’s BIONZ image processor with its Face Detection and Smile Shutter™ features to take photos without the user needing to snap the shutter button. This device makes it easy to capture more natural expressions and fun, candid moments of you, your family and friends without having to hire a photographer.

You might wonder “Doesn’t it need to be pointed in the right direction?” Answer: Nope–the motorized, battery-powered dock rotates 360 degrees and tilts up or down 24 degrees.

Next they just need to design a camera that will enjoy the photos for you so you don’t even have to look at them.
