For the exhibition titled Studio Franchise, a model of McGinness’s New York studio is arranged in one of the three spaces at La Casa Encendida, with a second gallery holding works-in-progress and the third displaying finished paintings by McGinness. Thus the audience gets a strong insight into the artist’s working practice, with McGinness and a small team working at La Casa during opening hours. “Studio Franchise is a logical extension of Warhol’s factory sarcasm, the Koons/Murakami/Hirst factory sincerity, and the artist-as-brand reality of today,” says McGinness of the show.

McGinness has created an amusing book (in collaboration with Base) to accompany the exhibition, titled Studio Manual, which gives “a comprehensive corporate overview of Ryan McGinness Studios Inc,” according to the press info. “Included is everything from a brand study and visual identity to corporate policies and detailed instructions on how to make Ryan McGinness art.”

Base will design the catalogue documenting the exhibition, which will be developed as the show progresses, and only be published shortly before the show closes, on April 4.
