RISDs Graduation Flash Mob

We’re not sure exactly how to feel about what went on this weekend at the Rhode Island School of Design‘s graduation ceremony. After everything wrapped up, everyone had been given their degrees (including Art Spiegelman, Seymour Chwast, and Brown University‘s president Ruth Simmons who received honorary ones), a portion of the class broke out into a “flash mob” dancing and lip-synching to that song from Slumdog Millionaire, “Jai Ho.” While we’re happy that this group of graduates were moved to break out in song, shouldn’t RISD be a little more up-to-date with disruptive trends? You’d expect more from them than the flash mob (a phrase that make us feel increasingly dirty every time we have to be subjected to it). Also, despite feigning surprise, John Maeda seems totally in on it. But we’ll let you (likely less curmudgeonly) readers make up your own mind:
