Rachel Comey Spring 2011 – Runway Review

imageDESIGNER: Rachel Comey

INSPIRATION: The cool indie-spirited girl that Comey always designs for.

TOP LOOKS: A high-waisted white cotton skirt with matching vest and diaphanous blouse with bandeau top; breezy bow blouses with short shorts; a cropped tank top with a button front high-waisted black skirt; bustier top dresses that were flowy and asymmetrical at the bottom; lots of mixed prints

ACCESSORIES: The designer’s own selection of sandals in the form of lace-up flats and wedges, platform booties, and thick heeled open toe shoes

WHO WAS THERE: Plaid-meister Steven Alan, Cathy Horyn from The New York Times

WHAT WE THOUGHT: It’s always nice to watch a show where a designer knows their target customer and hits the bulls eye. As the parade of very wearable pieces went down the runway – breezy white dresses and tops, silk plaid blouses and shorts, sweet halter dresses, and even a darling Chloe-esque summer suit – you could envision the girl who buys Rachel Comey’s clothes. She seems, to this reviewer anyway, to embody a Zooey Deschanel-like charm and quirkiness. And she would probably scoop up everything that Comey showed.
