Production Methods: Cool Demonstrations of Metal Spinning

The metal-forming method known as spinning will be familiar to anyone who’s used a pottery wheel, and it’s one of my favorites to watch. (Stamping is over too quickly to be interesting.)

While I think this dude is crazy for not wearing safety glasses, I enjoyed watching him spin this flat disc into a light fixture:

For a closer view of what’s happening to the metal, check out this video of a flat disc of aluminum being shaped into a can with a CNC lathe:

Then there’s spinning on a much larger scale — I liked watching this video of a guy making a baseplate for a fan because it kind of looks like he’s working on a time machine:
