Nice work for Guardian, KFC, Lexus and more

This week’s round-up of great recent work in advertising features campaigns for the Guardian, KFC, Lexus, Volvo, Coke, and more. We begin with a new spot for the Guardian and The Observer from BBH London that aims to show why the papers ‘own the weekend’…

Agency: BBH; Creative team: Gary McCreadle, Wesley Hawes, Matt Fitch, Mark Lewis; Deputy ECD: David Kolbusz; Production company: Biscuit; Director: Jeff Low.

Also from BBH is a new spot that promotes KFC’s recent sponsorship deal with Channel 4’s digital channel E4, which features some sweet animation from Scoff & Gritt. The spot is a reworking of the duo’s brilliant short film Wish List, which is well worth a revisit too. Agency: BBH London; Creative director: Marc Hatfield; Creatives: Martin Reed, Jonny Durgan; Production company: Field Trip; Directors: Scott & Gritt.

Next up is a case study film of an event for Lexus that took place in a Rome aircraft hangar. The film shows a select group of passengers (chosen via the Lexus Facebook page) riding alongside Formula 1 driver Jarno Trulli in the new Lexus IS Hybrid. The passengers used a touch tablet to improvise a racetrack for the car to drive down which was produced in real-time using projections and generative visuals. Looks brilliant fun for the lucky few who were there. Agency: Saatchi & Saatchi; ECD: Agostina Toscana; Creative directors: Luca Lorenzini, Luca Pannese; Creatives: Giulio Frittaion, Michele Sartori, Massimo Paternoster, Tommaso Zago; Production company: Movie Magic International; Post: Logan; Generative visuals, projection, interactivity and additional post VFX: Fake Love.

Following our post last week about the latest Volvo Trucks stunt spot, the brand has released another ad, this time featuring a hamster driving a truck around a hazardous quarry in Spain. This one slightly lacks the charm of the Hook and Ballerina Stunt spots, but is worth a look nonetheless. Agency: Forsman & Bodenfors; Production company: Smuggler; Director: Jamie Rafn.

We’re a little bit late to this Coke ad, which is directed by Johnny Kelly, who found fame with his Back to the Start video for Chipotle. I’m including it here in case you missed it too, as it’s a lovely piece of animation, even if the message – that Coke can be part of a healthy, active lifestyle – may feel a bit dubious. Agency: The Cyranos for McCann Worldgroup Europe; General creative director: Leandro Raposo; ECD: Pablo Colonnese; Creative directors: David Fernandez, Jon Lavin; Production company: Nexus; Director: Johnny Kelly.

The latest ESPN This Is Sportcenter commercial from Wieden + Kennedy New York features John Anderson and Bram Weinstein trying to figure out just what it is about Rafa Nadal that makes him so popular in the office. ECDs: Scott Vitrone, Ian Reichenthal; Creative directors: Stuart Jennings, Brandon Henderson; Creatives: Reuben Hower, Chuck Tso, NJ Placentra, Alex Ledford; Production company: O Positive; Director: David Shane.

We finish with this rather lovely piece of personal work from Art & Graft, titled Gizmosis. It is the first of a series of studio films that the team are planning to produce. Sound design: Brains & Hunch.
