New Yorks Gets Itself an Architectural Boat Tour
Posted in: UncategorizedRarely do we Chicagoans get the chance to hold anything over New Yorkers’ heads. We were a year behind their cupcake trend. And the gourmet burger thing. Now it looks like we’re going to have to follow them into whatever this artisanal soda thing is. But with the launch of AIA New York‘s relatively new boat-based “Around Manhattan Official NYC Architectural Tour,” we here in flyover country get to say, “Oh that? We’ve had that since the 80s” (we’re talking, of course, about the Chicago Architecture Foundation‘s popular boat tours). But midwestern chips-on-shoulders aside, the AIA chapter’s new tour looks terrific, running nearly three hours on a limited handful of Saturdays from August 28th to mid-December (though it appears everything is sold out until October 3rd). Here’s a great piece about the trip from the NY Times‘ Ariel Kaminer. While the price is a bit steep, coming in at $75 per person (here in Chicago, it’s $32), it’s nice to see New York finally getting their act together and seeing the city by boat. Please let us know if you need any pointers, since we’ve become old pros in our 30-something years of having them.
