New payment device is as convenient as it is unattractive

Folks, we have seen the future…and unfortunately, it’s kind of ugly. Recently touted in TCT Magazine, which reports on “Software and technology for product development and marketing,” was the “cutting-edge contactless card payment solution” pictured above, designed by i4 Product Design.

The PoS Paddle Tap-It device allows consumers to quickly wave their credit card (or cell phone, depending on what country you’re in) in front of the device to ring up a payment. We don’t doubt that this is more convenient than swiping or handing the card over to the cashier, but Jiminy Christmas, does the thing have to be so fugly? I think MacGyver has cobbled together more attractive things than this!
