pa href=”http://www.nendo.jp/en/profile/”Nendo/a is prolific, and at this year’s Milan Design Week, he’ll be showing nine new pieces for clients like Swarovski, Flaminia, Arketipo, Tectonica, and Boffi. Our favorites are the three self-initiated projects to be shown at emChair Garden/em, Nendo’s private exhibition at Galleria Antonia Jannone./p

pemDress-Up/em, pictured top, is a series of flower vases produced in collaboration with Ceramic Japan, a firm located in Seto, an area known for its ceramics. The three forms make up a family: “a heavyset ‘father,’ a slim ‘mother,’ and a smaller ‘child,'” each with its own distinctive collar. According to Nendo, “when we dress, our hair and clothing correspond to each other,” In this case, the clothing is the vase and the hair is the flower. /p

pemPeriod. Comma, “Quote”/em is a set of paperweights made in collaboration with Takada Seisakujo, specialists in cast aluminum. The three weights echo different forms of punctuation to help users sort their papers: “the period for work completed; the comma for work in progress; and the quotation mark for messages.” The forms are not predetermined, but shape up naturally as the aluminum is poured. /p

pemPeel/em is a tea mug with a small portion of the lip peeled away, creating a gap beneath the ceramic lid. Through the gap, a spoon handle can rest or a tea bag string can escape. The lid helps keep the tea hot while steeping, and can function as a spoon rest or a dish for sweets. /p
