DesigNYC is a new organization with the mission of improving New York City by helping nonprofit and community groups in need of design services connect with professional, pro bono design resources.

Though the eventual goal is to create an open network where organizations and designer can connect directly, desigNYC has hand selected a first round of ten pilot projects to jump start the organization, excerpted below:

NEW YORK CITY HOUSING AUTHORITY: Help NYCHA and the 649,112 New Yorkers it serves in public housing go green by designing a “Green Guide” to living a low-carbon lifestyle.Need: Graphic designers specializing in print design



BED-STUY FARM SHARE: Help Bed-Sty’s community supported agriculture (CSA) design “Eating Healthy in Bed-Stuy”, a booklet that will educate the community about nutrition to prevent diabetes and heart disease. Need: Graphic designers specializing in print design

ADDED VALUE: Help Added Value, which nurtures the next generation of leaders by operating a socially responsible urban farm in Red Hook, create more integrated identity system and outreach. Need: Designers specializing in identity, print, web, template design

ENTERPRISE COMMUNITY PARTNERS: Help this affordable housing pioneer design engaging community spaces (including a intergenerational garden and a community room for a development serving formerly homeless and low-income working individuals).
Need: Interior designers and landscape designers


THE BROADWAY MALL ASSOCIATION: Help the Association create an integrated winter lighting plan that will contribute to beauty, public safety and commercial visibility of Broadway between 60th and 185th Street. Need: Lighting designer and landscape designers
