Label Love: Explore African Prints By Tina Kalivas
Posted in: UncategorizedIt’s hard to pin down Tina Kalivas’ latest collection titled Polyrhythms. Inspired by the “mysterious natural geometry that lies at the very heart of indigenous African culture,” the collection features bold tribal prints with a modern geometric flair. The Australia based designer studied at the London College of Fashion, worked under Alexander McQueen, and even designed costumes for the James Bond flick Die Another Day and Baz Lurhmann‘s Australia. Her experience in costume design means that her clothing designs are visually appealing and fit impeccably. Her bold clothing is not for shrinking violets such as a peplum dress with at least five different prints on the same garment. Another favorite piece is a one shoulder shift dress with a sash like trim reminiscent of traditional African clothing. I’m anxiously waiting for her next collection and look forward to seeing her name in the film credits too! Take a look at my slideshow to see more of her latest collection. |
