James Piatt’s hybrid concept is one bad MOFO

Now that’s a press image we can get behind!

With most of the electric and hybrid car concepts you see, you get the sense they were designed by green-loving lab guys, not burning-rubber-in-dirty-overalls types of guys. Not so the well-named MOFO, a plug-in hybrid concept by L.A.-based designer James Piatt:

Many motor enthusiasts like myself still love the smell of gas and the sound of a roaring engine. At the same time it is great to have the ability to switch it off and run 100% electric.

The aesthetics of this automobile are intended to be simple, pure and classic. Open wheels give the design a more primitive and primal feel while the well defined curves create sculptural and sumptuous forms. I wanted the car to feel like it could have been created at any time by keeping the details simple and by staying away from expected aesthetic trends.

The MOFO team is aiming to deliver 300 units by 2012, and are in the midst of securing production facilities in South Africa. Learn more here.
