Posted in: promotionsDezeen promotion: products made from HI-MACS acrylic stone will be exhibited at 100% Design trade fair at Earls Court during the London Design Festival from Wednesday.
HI-MACS is a solid surface material designed and produced by LG Hausys that can be thermoformed to any 3D shape.
On show will be a kitchen designed by LG Hausys made entirely out of the material (top) and a sculpture designed by Ora-Ïto for sports brand Reebok as an interpretation of their RealFlex shoe (above).
HI-MACS will be exhibiting at the 100% Eco, Design & Build and 100% Kitchens & Bathrooms sections at 100% Design, Hall: E42 K32.
100% Design takes place from 19 to 22 September at Earls Court, west London, where Dezeen will be hosting a series of live talks with designers and critics – more information here.
We’ve previously featured benches and ledges at a museum, walls perforated to make pictures of faces and engraved table tops at a restaurant, all made from HI-MACS.

After a successful week in Paris, HI-MACS is moving to London. As part of London’s Design Festival (September 19th – 22nd), HI-MACS will be thrilling the crowds at 100% Design in the Eco, Design and Build section. The exhibition is a prestigious event and considered as a landmark occasion for the décor and design industry giving LG Hausys the perfect opportunity to introduce its amazing “Contemporary Décor” kitchen made entirely out of HI-MACS, as well as a wall sculpture that was created for Reebok by famous designer Ora-Ïto.
“Contemporary Décor” is a new, minimalist kitchen design that is both functional and futuristic, and is made entirely out of the new-generation acrylic stone. The idea behind this kitchen is to re-explore the use of organic materials in decorative objects, in order to create a look reminiscent of a polar landscape; the LG Hausys stand will therefore be distinguishable by its use of rounded, laminated surfaces made out of white HI-MACS. This material will not only be used to dress the display area itself, but also to create the surfaces into which the kitchen appliances are built. This 22nd century kitchen was first shown at the recent Design Week in Milan. The voluptuous curves undulate upwards to meet the highly functional worktops, creating a striking emotional impact. In addition, the entire kitchen benefits, among other things, from the thermoformable, hard-wearing, easy-to-maintain and hygienic properties of HI-MACS.
As well as this there will be a sculpture designed by Ora-ïto for Reebok, which premiered at the Wallpaper/Reebok exhibition in London and was fabricated by Cándido Hermida in Spain. Ora-ïto’s contribution was an interpretation of the Reebok RealFlex shoe in the form of a wall-mounted installation made entirely from HI-MACS. The sculpture is made of HI-MACS — which was chosen for its ability to offer one unbroken, seamless sheet, for the 3m-wide work, and with the strength to take the considerable weight. The detail of Ora-ïto’s work came from what he described as the “iconic sneaker soles”. In creating this the designer was able to exercise various sculptural experiments taking inspiration from the RealFlex sole’s “hidden art” aspects, resulting in a topographic landscape made to touch and explore its own poetic qualities.
HI-MACS will also be in evidence at prominent points around the 100% Design Show.
Firstly, on the highly visible DeVOL Kitchens stand, where a stylish and highly contemporary kitchens design, using HI-MACS as the main material is on show.
A particularly spectacular exhibit will be the ISOMI stand, featuring their Mono collection, of a reception desk, seating and a media unit, all designed using HI-MACS extolling its thermoformability and translucent qualities that enhance back-lit effects.
Finally, the Belle and Bespoke stand showcases a variety of furniture units where HI-MACS Lucents range has been combined with seamlessly integrated LED light sheets to create glowing miniature galleries.
As a solid surface material HI-MACS is a designer’s dream, in that it can be thermoformed to virtually any 3D shape, joined, so that it is visually seamless, and offers highly durable, impervious surfaces for multiple functions. HI-MACS is the New Generation of solid surface. Designed and produced by LG HAUSYS, a world technology leader, it is distributed across Europe from LG Hausys Europe headquarters in Geneva.
HI-MACS adapts to the most demanding needs with its extraordinary characteristics; it is completely non-porous, has the highest level of durability and thus does not lose its colouring. It also has uniform thickness, allowing for perfectly imperceptible joints. Easy to fabricate, HI-MACS, with its excellent thermoformability properties, lets you adapt the material to the desired shapes and to create a range of designs that is nearly infinite.
Thanks to the quality of the material, HI-MACS offers 15 years warranty, the longest in the market.
