Heath Ceramics Canisters

by Julie Wolfson

The gorgeous set of limited edition canisters on view at Heath Ceramics‘ upcoming show are the result of a three-way collaboration between Heath, Commune Design and Alma Allen. The shape of the canisters, hand thrown at Heath’s Sausalito studio, combined with Commune Design’s custom made natural tone glazes and Alma Allen’s polished walnut tops makes for an exquisite one-off addition to any home. Each of the 75 canisters is signed and numbered by the artists, appropriately placed as a nod to their individual contributions.

Born in Utah, Allen moved around the U.S. before settling in Joshua Tree to build his home and studio. The designer of the bronze lobby door handles and stools for Ace Hotel Palm Springs, his work can be found around the world from Tokyo to New York. Alongside the canisters, the Heath Ceramics show will feature Allen’s sculptures, salvaged wood furniture and hand turned wooden bowls as well as some of his pieces created for the Japanese boutique Playmountain.
