Before this writer headed out of town last Thursday night, we caught word that our old pal and former UnBeige co-editor, Alissa Walker, had landed the scoop on filmmaker Gary Hustwit‘s third film in his design documentary trilogy. Following Helvetica and last year’s look at product design, Objectified, Hustwist’s latest will be called Urbanized, a film about the design of cities. Set to be released sometime next year, it’s currently being filmed in the director’s usual globe-hopping fashion. Make sure to read Alissa’s conversation with Hustwit for the few juicy details he’s allowing himself to let out, and keep an eye on both the film’s just-launched site and his Twitter feed for ongoing info. Here’s some of the description of the film from said new site:

Urbanized looks at the issues and strategies behind urban design, featuring some of the world’s foremost architects, planners, policymakers, builders, and thinkers. Over half the world’s population now lives in an urban area, and 75% will call a city home by 2050. But while some cities are experiencing explosive growth, others are shrinking. The challenges of balancing housing, mobility, public space, civic engagement, economic development, and environmental policy are fast becoming universal concerns. Yet much of the dialogue on these issues is disconnected from the public domain.
