Forget the Apple Tablet! Come back to CRT’s

A couple of years ago we posted this shot of a luxe TV from 1978, joking that “[this] thing is so large, ostentatious and outmoded we’re sure Kim Jong Il still has one of these sitting around somewhere.”

Kim’s neighbors to the south, LG, are actually producing retro TVs of their own, though they are considerably more tasteful and reach back a little further in time than the ’70s.

The LG Serie 1 Television incorporates an honest-to-God CRT, comes in a box that looks like a steamer trunk, and can be switched to black-and-white and even sepia, in case you want to turn Anderson Cooper into a daguerrotype.

It’s even got a channel-changing knob that you can break off and replace with a pair of Vise-Grips, just like in the good ol’ days.
