pWhen I was a kid it seemed like every family on the block owned a pair of A HREF=”http://www2.fiskars.com/” Fiskars/A, the distinctly orange-handled scissors every mom used while repairing the clothes you’d tear up playing stickball. I didn’t know it then, but the company was the first to make plastic-handled scissors, releasing them in 1967./p

pFiskars turns a staggering 360 years old this year (it’s Finland’s oldest company) and they now make a heck of a lot more than scissors. Like Dyson, who takes a technology–in their case, sucking and blowing air–and applies it to everything from vacuums to fans, Fiskars takes their centuries’ worth of blade-making and turns that into knives, saws, shears, gardening implements, rotary cutters, paper trimmers, and even a manual lawnmower./p
