Fashion House Gianfranco Ferré up for Sale; Auction Averted for Isabella Blow’s Estate

action_auction.jpgAs we proceed through the various stages of grief concerning Givenchy’s decision to take its leave of the haute couture catwalk (courage, Riccardo!), we offer more fashion updates: good news if you want to acquire a fabled fashion house; not so much if you were looking to snag one of Issie’s famously wacky chapeaux. IT Holding, the parent of Italian fashion house Gianfranco Ferré, is now accepting offers for the bankrupt company. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the house has already attracted three potential bidders: the textile division of South Korean conglomerate Samsung Group, Italian private-equity firm Palladio Finanziaria, and a foreign financial investor. IT Holding is also selling off licensing and manufacturing business Ittierre and knitwear brand Malo.

Meanwhile, fashion fans can stop saving up for Christie’s planned September sale of the wardrobe of the late Isabella Blow. The auction, about which we twittered excitedly last month, was called off last week when a private buyer agreed to purchase the entire collection for an undisclosed sum. So who’s the new owner of a fabled wardrobe cache that included a whopping 90 pieces designed by Alexander McQueen, 50 Philip Treacy hats, as well as looks from the likes of John Galliano, Giles Deacon, and Hussein Chalayan? WWD has a feeling that it’s sartorial superstar Daphne Guinness, a close friend and distant relative of Blow. We’ve already pre-ordered the coffee-table book that was originally planned as a companion to the sale. It’s now due out in November from Thames & Hudson.
