DOh! The Simpsons Go Postal

When we first heard that The Simpsons were getting their own stamps, we mistook the news for a reference to that classic episode when Bart wins the rogue elephant (“Stampy“) in a radio contest. Turns out, America’s favorite family—and the longest-running comedy in television history—is getting actual stamps, as in the kind issued by the United States Postal Service. Featuring original artwork by series creator and executive producer Matt Groening, The Simpsons stamps will be released nationwide on May 7 (just in time for fall wedding invitations!) after a dedication ceremony at Fox Studios in Los Angeles, but impatient philatelists can pre-order the stamps online. The Simpsons is the only television show to be featured as the sole subject of a stamp set while still in primetime production. “This is the biggest and most adhesive honor The Simpsons has ever received,” said Groening in a statement issued by the U.S. Postal Service. Added executive producer James L. Brooks, “We are emotionally moved by the Postal Service selecting us rather than making the lazy choice of someone who has benefited society.”
