Dezeen promotion: Tequila Don Julio asked the Dezeen team to put together a last-minute Christmas gift guide. Here’s a selection of designerly items that have impressed us over the past year and will be buying for our friends and families.
1. Baby Plumen by Hulger
The fantastically popular, award-winning Plumen low-energy bulb has a little sister! Designed by Sam Wilkinson, the new smaller bulb comes with both bayonet and screw fixtures and can be used in any compatible lamp or shade, or hung naked. See our video interview with Wilkinson.
We all have at least one of these in our homes and Marcus’s mum has requested one for Christmas this year. Plumen now also do a range of stylish pendants to hang the bulbs in.
2. Sugru
We’ve all become avid Sugru users over the past year: Wai used it to fix the strap on his weekend bag, Dan hacked his dodgy computer mouse cable and Marcus repaired his bathroom cord-pull light switch.
Sugru is a synthetic, self-hardening putty that can be moulded onto any object to customise or fix it. See some examples of how it can be used here. Watch our video of Sugru inventor Jane ní Dhulchaointigh explaining how she invented the product here.
3. Pottery by Ian Mcintyre for Another Country
Most of the Dezeen team already have one of these terracotta jugs – and those that don’t are asking Santa for one. Ian Mcintyre‘s pottery range for Another Country also includes a pinch pot, plate bowl and cup (top image).
The jugs were particularly popular in our Dezeen Super Store pop up this summer and they’re made close to the Dezeen office by Mcintyre, who’s based in Hackney, London.

4. MY03 Hacker watch by Michael Young
We could hardly write a Christmas gift guide without including a watch. The MY03 Hacker, designed by Michael Young, is Marcus’ watch of choice at the moment (he has the gold one) and he can vouch for its reliability, durability and conversation-startability.
Watch our exclusive video of Young talking about the Hacker watch here.

5. Nike+ FuelBand
Wear this device on your wrist and you’ll get fitter. By recording your daily movements, the Nike+ FuelBand makes you aware of your (lack of) activity and can genuinely help you lead a more active lifestyle. Marcus and Rupinder both swear by them and Rupinder enjoys showing Marcus how much more ground she covers in an average day.
Watch our movie of Nike’s global creative director Andy Walker explaining how the FuelBand works.
