Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID) co-founder Heather Martin has been tapped to lead Smart Design‘s interaction design practice in Europe. She has joined the firm’s Barcelona studio as director of interaction design. Before co-founding design and technology hub CIID, Martin held positions at IDEO and Tangerine, was academic director of Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Italy, and was a fellow at the Royal College of Art (her alma mater). She has worked with clients including Prada, Intel, Samsung, Nokia, and Artemide. Smart Design’s Matt Barthelemy, vice president of interaction design, describes Martin as “the ideal person” to lead Smart’s expanding interaction design practice in Europe. “Her holistic understanding of design—from hardware and software, to brand communications and service design—is in sync with how Smart Design works to improve people’s lives and our clients’ businesses through our integrated design solutions.”
